Hi, we completed the FAFSA and were able to use my son’s PIN to sign his part of it. But when I scroll down to “Parent’s Signature” it has the wrong date of birth for me. It actually has my son’s date of birth! I’ve gone into the Parent Demographics area on the app and it is correct there…I don’t know why it is putting his date of birth in that spot instead of mine. And of course it won’t accept my PIN, since the info is wrong. I can’t type in the field to change it. It looks like there is an option to submit without a signature, or to mail in a signature page. Should I just do one of those?
Mailing in the signature page takes a lot longer and will delay processing and submitting without a signature means it won’t process. Did you maybe enter the wrong DOB when applying for the PIN? I don’t think the PIN signing DOB comes from the demographic section as both parent’s birth dates are entered there and only one has to sign so the program wouldn’t know which one is signing except by the PIN. You could go to the PIN site and do the Check PIN status with your DOB and if it say something about it not being found you probably entered the wrong date when you applied. If so request a duplicate PIN at the PIN site. There have been reports here of weird problems when using some browsers, you could try IE if you’re not using it.
I keep going back into the PIN website and resubmitting/confirming my info, but it keeps doing it. Apparently I have a PIN from when I went back to school myself in 2004. I was able to confirm all that info on the PIN page. But the application is not accepting my PIN (which the PIN page says is correct), and it is also putting my son’s birthdate in the field that says “mothers date of birth” though that is certainly not the date of birth associated with my PIN, and that date of birth is not entered for me anywhere on the FAFSA app. It’s weird. Is there a customer service number for them I can call on Monday?
If you have a PIN from when you were in school , did you try the forgot PIN function?
If you remember the answer to your challenge question, you can have them display your pin
I keep trying and it is confirming that I have the correct PIN number. Should I apply for a new one?
Did you try the update personal information?

Which browser are you using? There have been problems reported here with browsers other than IE. Such as not being able to select some fields etc. Not sure why the browser would affect this but it’s probably worth a try if you’re not using IE.
Yes I updated the personal info. I am on a mac but I will try again from another computer and browser.
If all else fails, go to pin.ed.gov & disable your PIN … then create a new one. Pick your own 4-digit PIN & you will be able to sign with it right away.
Nothing is working…I’m going to try to disable it and get a new one.
So I disabled the old PIN and tried to create a new one, but it’s saying “PIN already exists.” This is so frustrating!
From your prior posts it seemed you had two PINs, one from when you were a student. Did you disable both?
I’m so confused. I think I had one for myself from being a student, and the new one for my son.
Once you disable, you need to select Reestablish my PIN to get a new one. Did you click on that option? It is possible that disabling is not immediate - you might need to wait until Monday or Tuesday to reestablish.
Yes I tried to reestablish the PIN, but it said I already had a PIN, so maybe I need to wait a day or two.
