I took out Parent PLUS loans for my kids. In 2009 and 2010 I took out loans for a child who graduated in May 2012. It is now time to repay these loans.
I received a statement that indicates interest for the loan disbursed in 2009 began to accrue 7/18/2011; the 2010 loan had interest begin to accrue on 9/19/2011.
How were these dates determined?

According to this [Parent PLUS Loan Interest Rate < PLUS Loans | ParentPLUSLoan.com](<a href=“Federal Student Loans | Edvisors”>Federal Student Loans | Edvisors) interest is supposed to start at the time of the disbursement. You may have gotten a break, but I would call to ask how they determined it.

Interest on PLUS loans is supposed to start accruing as soon as the loan is disbursed. If you were not paying the interest as it was accruing, I would expect it to have started accruing on the first loans back in 2009. It is very odd that it would say it didn’t start accruing until 2011.

Very odd, and very possibly wrong … in which case, the servicer will eventually figure it out & adjust the interest. Log onto [National Student Loan Data System for Students](http://www.nslds.ed.gov) — use the name of the parent in whose name the PLUS was borrowed, as well as that parent’s PIN. See what info you can find in that database. It’s the federal database.
