My son is attending Session 1 of NASS and I will be flying cross country to pick him up. I understand there are some sessions for parents on departure day that I can attend. Does anyone know where I can get information on what those sessions are and what time they start?

There is information about the session in your kid’s notice to report.
It is at 12:30 [I think] and only a brief recap of the week. This is not intended to be a “recognition” event, but if you are going to be there anyway it is probably worth attending.

Thanks Bill. I thought there were tours and/or other informational sessions for parents that day.

No; not at this stage. [I don’t think the Academy really wants parents “invested” at this stage; too many steps between now and then before parents should become too attached to the Academy.]

You can always go on the public tours and/or walk around in the morning. You may get a chance to see the students running around doing something or the other if you are walking around.
I just grabbed a notice and it says:

“the seminar will conclude at approximately 12:00p.m. on the Thursday of your visit following the awards ceremony. The ceremony is quite brief and is not intended as a ‘must see’ for parents and family–it is simply a wrapup of the week for the students. Naval Academy buses depart USNA at 12:30 p.m. for BWI Airport.”
