Hi Everyone - thought I'd start this thread since parent weekend is around the corner. Any tips for the weekend? Is the football game/tailgating a popular activity? Any recommendations? I think we should try to meet up again.....even just for happy hour somewhere. FC -will you be there????

No, I won’t. It isn’t so common to go after freshman year, and my D is unbelievably busy. Most packed combination of everything she has had yet. I would just be making her get behind. But it is a fun weekend to see how well they have adapted. A lot of people do tailgate, but it will be a lot more common after this year with the new stadium. Just depends on if your kid is into going to the games, I guess.

We will definitely be attending the game! Just watched Tulane beat LA Tech on televised game! This will be last year to see the Green Wave play at the Superdome-pretty fun atmosphere, but next year will be even better with Yulman Stadium on campus!

I will be there with my sister (she lives in Atlanta so it’s a pretty quick flight for her). I think we are planning to go to the game as well.

With any luck, my son will grace us with his presence. ;)

After trips to NOLA in March, June & August, this Mama just can’t make Family Weekend. Luckily, my sister is in Dallas and is happy to make the quick & cheap flight to be there for the weekend. She told my Son that if he’s too busy, it’s fine, but that she will be there if he wants to have a meal or do some shopping.

I have tasked her with at least snapping a pic of Joe Montana at the Football Game… Rohan Marley too!

We didn’t see much of our older son at Family Weekend/Homecoming his freshman year. I wish they separated Homecoming and Parents weekend to be honest. We didn’t want to get in his way with all of the homecoming social activities that were available to him, but also didn’t want him to be “without family” either. There will be all kinds of tailgating at Champions Square outside the dome. Many of the school organizations have tents and the Greek organizations are also represented. Somehow they are always up for a free meal or two at a place typically more upscale than what they frequent!

That’s why I’m glad my sister is going with me. If he wants to hang with us, great. If not we’ll make our own fun. :D

We will be there too. My dad is flying in from Florida and meeting us and we will be bringing my nephew who just hit the submit button on his Tulane application! How do we go about getting tickets for the football game? We are renting a car. What is the parking situation? Does the school run shuttles?

The school does run shuttles. You can get tickets online. This is the page you probably want to focus on. [Tulane University - Parent-Family Weekend](http://tulane.edu/studentaffairs/orientation/parent/weekend.cfm) It has a form that allows you to register for any or all events during the weekend and I think the second page allows you to buy the tickets.

So, you don’t buy a ticket for the student for the game (it’s free for them) but they will have a seat? I’m a little confused about that.

The dome is so big that everyone pretty much just sits where they want. There are some regular season ticket holders who like to sit in their own seats though. Your student can just sit with you or with the rest of the students - it’s up to you to negotiate that one! ;)

Think of it as more or less general admission.

Yes, I posted on the FB page and that’s pretty much what everyone said. Thanks!!

We also signed up for the Urban Paddle Adventure on Sunday.

Can someone fill me in on the tailgating situation? Do parents run their own tailgate or do they attend the school sponsored tailgate?

We signed up to go to the School of Science and Engineering tent. Because nobody parties like a scientist!! ;)

I think for the most part, parents attend school sponsored tailgates.

Well the tailgates have been cancelled due to Karen, but the game is supposed to go on as scheduled so far.

Such wonderful timing…

We’re signed up for the Urban Paddle Adventure on Sunday. Maybe it will take place on St. Charles Avenue. LOL

LOL mavitale. Stay dry :)

just got back home. what a great weekend! Highlights…seeing my son who is sooo happy…“winning” homecoming tee shirts at the carnival…eating, eating, eating…spending $117 in Target on I’m not sure what…seeing a scene being filmed for 22 Jump Street…the sun, the rain, the sun, the rain…no tropical storm/hurricane…having my son sleep over at the hotel with us Saturday night…the Superbowl/football game… and the biggest surprise of all: sitting next to Bloomy on the plane!..can’t wait for next year!

After a rocky start (I arrived Thursday and was told “it’s not parent weekend YET” by my son and blown off for dinner!) I also had a great weekend. The game was a blast. Disappointed that they cancelled the canoe trip but it did pour yesterday morning for a few minutes. I love my morning walk through the park and then to PJs for iced coffee (don’t ask for a “light” coffee down here. They have no idea what that means).

Went to Buffa’s in the Bywater yesterday. What a cool area. Esplanade is a gorgeous street!

My son is very happy, getting his act together with coursework and loves his dorm mates.

I’m leaving this morning and may not see him again until he’s home in December, but I’m content knowing he’s in a good place.
