Anyone dealing with parents who disagree to which college you're applying? I don't know if I should risk applying to a college outside a my given range because of cost. They're also concerned about future career prospects after graduating from less known schools

First issue with applying to colleges is fit: does the school offer the type of academic and social experience you want? (Among other fit-related concerns, the issues of school prestige, job prospects and graduate school prep need to be dealt with objectively here. The key sub-question is: Can a successful experience at specific School X lead to the job or graduate education the student is looking for? There are many information sources available to help answer those questions.)

Second is selectivity, does your list include a school or two that you would like to attend where you definitely will be admitted?

Third is affordability: Can you and your family afford the tuition and other costs involved?

If you and your parents can sit down and go through this exercise school by school, without resorting to generalizations, you will likely be able to reach reasonable agreement about the appropriate schools for your application list. Problems arise when schools are added to, or subtracted from a list without really examining their appropriateness.

Good luck!
