My parents and I will be attending the Final Decision day on April 22nd and it will be their first time to actually tour a 4 year university, but should I bring my parents to my summer orientation? I mean, I need them to drive about 2-2 1/2 hours to get me to Davis, but both my parents and I are not sure if they should stay. I heard that the student and parent(s) don’t even see each other that much.

Just some fun information: I really don’t want to be sitting in the DC’s by myself!

For summer orientation - my parent’s drove me up and hung out until we actually went with our group. They left and I took the train home when it was over. We went up early so we could find the train station, buy my ticket, etc and to make sure I knew how to get back to the train station! There were quite a few parents staying for the parent orientation.
Also, most everyone there is by themselves so everyone is looking for people to eat with. You shouldn’t have a problem meeting new people to hang out with.

I am a parent and really enjoyed the parent part of orientation.

I would recommend it to every first time UCD parent. We live one hour away so we just drove up and back for the 2 days…but I would say it is worth the hotel room if you have to go that way.
A university education is a big deal. Parents should be informed and enlightened!
