Both my parents are looking forward to attending the first day of Bulldog Days. However, they cannot miss work for two days straight and must leave after the first day. They are worried that I'll look like an orphan during the second day, even though I insist that it'll be fine.

What about everyone else? Are your parents coming for one days, two days, or not at all?

Last year, my parents and I went separate ways after the first two hours. Part of the fun of Bulldog Days is interacting with your future classmates on your own, the way you're going to do it in September.

My daughter, who's now a freshman at Yale, went on her own to Bulldog Days. Even when parents attend, I think they're encouraged to let the students go off with other students. You definitely won't feel like an orphan the second day.

when my parents came to visit me over the summer they stayed in the one across from pad thai...dang it...does anyone remember the name....the omni was booked

If my parents stayed over, they would stay at the Holiday Inn, about a mile away. It's a nice place, and a lot less expensive than the hotels right near campus. If you have a car, the distance wouldn't be a problem.

The old Holiday Inn is a Marriot now, I think.
You can find all the hotels online - just google New Haven hotels. The Colony Inn is popular if you can't get into the Omni or Marriot.
I think having your parents go for one day, and your staying over will be just fine. They'll get in on the parent stuff -seminars and talks for parents, and you'll get to experience some of Yale on your own. Have fun!

athlonmj - Your dad should come. He won't be WITH you at all - you'll barely see him. They have separate forums and events for parents. There will be tons of parents - meeting other parents and talking to admins., deans, etc.
The information he gets at these meetings will enable him to relax while you're at school next year. The school does a very good job of easing parents' minds about the safety of the town, accessibilty to help if needed, etc. It will be in your best interest if he attends. :)
