I was wondering if most parents attend the orientation sessions. Thanks!

there is a separate parents program that runs at the same time as the student orientation.

Thanks. I do know this, but want to know if many parents attend this program while their kids attend their orientation–or do most kids travel to their orientation alone.

I don’t know any exact numbers but it seemed when I attended the orientation with DS a few years ago, there were a LOT of parents there. The program was very well run and most parents there seemed to really enjoy it (even if we didn’t see our kids very much!).

By the way, there is a parent’s message board on the NEU website where parents can also post questions and share info with other parents (although CC is much nicer! :))

scansmom-- Thanks!

We attended last year and the hall was full of parents from all over the country. It was a well run and informative!

I’m leeching onto this thread. If the parents come along and use campus housing, does the student stay in the same room? Anyone know?

Students and parents do not stay together; I believe the students still stay in the Stetson dorms which are all-freshmen traditional dorms (and are therefore available for student orientations in the summer). The year I attended parents stayed in West Village which are suite-style (with private bathrooms and air conditioning!)

My husband and I decided to split up so that he will take our son to orientation and I will take him to school in the fall, to save on travel costs (airfares for us are very expensive to Boston).

I’m very sad to be missing orientation. Anything you learned that really helped you get through the first year that you can share? Anything I should put on a list for my husband to be sure he does? Information to bring home?

Thanks!

scansmom: Thanks for the reply! What about eating? Does the cost cover eating for students and parents?

^Yes, you’ll get meal passes for the dining halls.
