Like a lot of the people on this forum, I’m applying to college, ew… My parents make a little upwards of 350k, no debt, mortgage paid. I have a sibling more than a decade younger than me. Caring about prestige too much as most asian parents seem to, they would rather me go to a 65k a year private than a full ride public and they said they would finance it. But, they’ve also said that they would pay for my med school in full if I don’t recieve merit aid, which is too far off to assume. Completely fine going full ride public, but they seem adamant draining another 260k for undergraduate. Should I continue to convince them otherwise or just be grateful that they care a bit too much?
First world problem.
Just be grateful. And go to the best school with the best program for you.
Promises, promises. Things can change, and as you said med school is a long way away.
You have a wonderful opportunity. Go to the school you think fits you the best. It may not be the big prestige school. It may be the full scholarship public. Money should be a factor, even if you decide that Prestige U is worth it.
Be grateful, but make sure that your parents understand how much both college and medical school cost, so that they do not make promises that they cannot keep.

Merit for med school is rare. Never count or expect any
