worried-mom, I’m not fabricating this. Our income was just shy of 70,000. I’m not sure what number is used on the FAFSA though. Could it be the AGI? That might have made the difference.
I just grabbed our taxes…income was about 73K, AGI was 68K. I did our FAFSA using those numbers. We were even tagged for verification so I sent my taxes in and we did get 600 Pell and the SEOG.

You must have several children … and age of oldest parent is also a factor.

Three children total. One in high school, one has already graduated college and does not live at home but is considered as part of household as we provide >50% support, and one in college. Age of oldest parent is 52. I checked the FAFSA form as well and did use the 68K AGI.

It does not sound like the OP is using bankruptcy as a way to get more aid.

Can a college be included in a chapter 7

Can a college be included in a
bankrupt chapter 7

^^^

What do you mean?

[Loan Cancellation Discharge](http://www2.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/loan.cancellation.discharge.html#Bankruptcy)

$70K gross is not $70K AGI and if there are other kids in college, or even other kids period, the EFC could be lower than it seems just from that initial info. You should file and find out, or at least run the numbers through an EFC estimator.

I assume you live with your mom. If you live with your dad, it’s his income - which i take is 0 since he’s unemployed - that will count for FAFSA.

Completely. And yelling at the kid who had nothing to do with it is, in addition, just dumb.
