Parents forcing to apply to ivy, please help :(

Okay my super indian dad knows only the ivy league schools and deems everything else to be "lousy." I made a reasonable list of 9 schools consisting of a healthy mix of reaches, matches, and safeties, but he doesn't give a damn. He insists on applying to the ivies, even though I feel I'd be an insult to the other CC'ers here that are 10x more qualified than me and still stand little chance of acceptance. To top it all off, I havnt even written my Supp essays, because I didnt think my parents were possibly being serious. So chances are, those would suck. Can you guys give me some brutally honest, unbiased chances? Maybe by seeing them,my parents will realize they're wasting their money. But they are really really stubbornand refuse to do any research at all. Specifically, i need chances for Cornell, dartmouth, upenn, and brown. Any advice would help too, but chances first!

Extra Stuff:

Ethnicity: Indian (of the South Asian variety, not Native American)

High School: Above average public school, usually a handful of students get into top-tier schools every year

Also, I have some credits from a local community college.

Hm… I wouldn’t exactly say that you’re “out of the hunting”. Despite that poor SAT score, you seem to make up for it with your solid grades and class rank. However, those SAT II’s are still going to hurt as you will be facing many many applicants with 2300 + on their SAT’s and perfect SAT II’s.

I don’t know, for me, your application looks a little “generic”. Same NHS, same volunteer hours, same clubs for the most part, same grades, etc.

There’s a reason why the Ivy’s reject many 2400’s and 4.0 GPA’s every year and admit students whose scores are under par, and that is STANDING OUT.

Write about something, whether on your supp essay or common app, which makes you stand out. Seriously, people fail to realize this, and growing up in an Asian family as well, I know the emphasis placed on grades and scores. STANDING OUT will raise your chances of admissions significantly. I mean seriously, at the table of discussion, which ad com member is going to say “How about that kid with 2400 SAT, 4.0 GPA, and who wrote about how his dad influenced him”, its more likely going to sound like “Hm… that applicant who showed us the influence that a simple skydive had on his personality (or another topic which is unique) and who showed true passion for their goals in their EC’s…should gain admission…”

Another question, are you applying internationally?

Feel free to chance me back,

no im applying from within the US.
i dont think a week is enough time to write anything really meaningful. dartmouth is the only one out of the four that doesnt have a supp essay

Bump please
