Parents: How Do I get an Interesting/Different Summer Job?

Good luck! Let us know what you find.

A friend of mine has a relative who works in the Bahamas at the resorts as a maid. They live in these huge hut-like tents right on the water. They are given a boat to use during their leisure time and they spend their down time hanging out at the beach and of course, partying most nights. Funny thing is this girl got her college degree and much to the dismay of her parents decided not to leave the resort the last summer she worked. She has been there for a couple of years now since she graduated.

Also, when I used to wait tables while in college, I worked with several young college students who would leave in the summer and go work at Yellowstone Park. There are tons of summer camps that hire college students for camp counselors. Pick a state you think you would like to work in and apply. You don’t make a lot of money, but you can have a great experience and it looks terrific on resumes. Good luck and have some fun!

Ask at your career office about the formal programs that allow students from one country to go to another for a short-term work experience. The programs take care of your visa, and you will be able to work legally. Sorry I don’t have any links about this. You should be able to find a program that will send you to Europe for 3 to 6 months.

Good luck!
