sorry if that was too much info- i just need some advice so any input is appreciated! Thanks in advance! and any suggestions of more schools that i should check out would be AWESOME!

You sound like a great kid – and a very ernest one too. I think you are . . . freaking out a bit though.

Ease up. Go ahead and apply. Apply to at least one school that is a solid, great college but that serves students with typically lesser GPA/SAT’s so you have a back up plan.

Remember the Little Mermaid? Gads. What an idiot. She lays eyes on a tall, handsome fellow dancing on a ship deck and instantly decides she will do anything (including selling her soul) so she can have that fellow. She doesn’t know if he drinks, snores or is wild with money. She doesn’t know if he lies or cheats. She just knows she WANTS, WANTS, WANTS him.

Fortunately she is rescued by her friends AND he turns out to be a nice guy.

Don’t be the Little Mermaid. You like the looks of William and Mary. You like the looks of Furman. Fine. Take the next step in the courtship and apply. Then let them impress you – with an acceptance and, perhaps, some merit aid. Meanwhile, keep an open mind that there are other handsome princes out there who deserve a chance to impress you.

Less drooling. Please. Apply. Apply widely. Keep your options open. Give your heart to some one who wants you AND who treats you well.
Good luck!

NOBODY is diverse!! You are an individual like anyone else. Diversity is collective. If you went to Zambia you would add to the diversity, if a Zambian person came to a place where nearly everyone was like you, they would add to the (collective) diversity.

You’ll get in somewhere. Find a safety that you LOVE and can AFFORD, and then it hardly matters where else you apply, or what your chances are.

William and Mary is a reach but the others seem like matches.

I plan on majoring in PHYSICS (eventually premed or engineering- haven’t decided yet). I’m considering double majoring/minoring in English also. I need a school that is affordable/can give me LOTS of merit aid because my parents are DOs (so my finan. aid situation is dismal).

What is the deal?

You say that you want LOTS of merit aid. Well, what does that mean? How much do you need?

I don’t know if any of your picks would give you “lots of merit.” I think some might give you $5k or $10k, but if the school costs $45k - 55k, is a small merit scholarship enough?

Do any of these schools give ASSURED scholarships? If not, then you should apply to some that will give you assured scholarships.

How much will your parents pay for college? From that answer, we’ll know whether a school might work or not.

It’s not enough to know whether you’d get in unless you know that your parents will pay for wherever you go.

Do you need merit in order to pay for college? Or will your parents pay and you’d just like some merit? Or do you want to pay less for undergrad so that your parents will help with med school?

I remember your earlier posts and I think we PM’ed about some schools, but I don’t remember what your financial situation is.

OK a few things: (*thanks for responding first of all)

Olymom: sorry if I’m drooling…but I’ll definitely remember to keep my options open thank you. I know my list should have reaches/ matches and likelys and i think i have all three right?

sorghum: Lol i know right! It’s getting harder and harder to be different because everybody is- which is a very weird idea if you think about it…

mini- you’re totally right, which is exactly why Duquesne is on the list =)

Jingle: thank you that’s what i was expecting I just was hoping for some concrete answers and you gave it!

mom2collegekids: i should have been more specific/. i dont need a full ride. I just can’t pay more than 30,000 -32,000 per year (including tuition, r&b and merit aid). Under 30 thousand a year would be ideal but only a few (Elon, Duq, Siena) will turn out that low. Obviously the cheaper the final cost the better, but if a school is 50, 000 a yr but merit aid brings it down to 30 000( as is sometimes the case with GWU and others), obviously I would love to look into it! I’ll talk to my parents about Alabama- it sounds perfect…except it’s almost 4 states further south than my parents are willing to send me even if it is for a full ride. Thank you for all the advice and help you all have given me- with this more info- any more suggestions coming to mind?

PS. I know I want to major in Physics. I am not set on even minoring on English but I do know that I would like to take Humanities electives (so a school strong on sciences and humanities would be best). Also: Siena/ Duq/ and Elon have assured scholarships based on GPA and standardized tests. The others are more of a crapshoot for merit aid as far as i know. Lehigh might be off the list because it costs too much (est. cost: 48,000). Loyola Maryland might be on. Same with George Washington…any info on them?

THANK YOU again! you all have no idea how helpful this is!!

You should drop this line and attitude.

Jingle (post #5) has got it right.

*i should have been more specific/. i dont need a full ride. I just can’t pay more than 30,000 -32,000 per year (including tuition, r&b and merit aid).

Would Elon be under $30k? I think tuition, room, board and books at Elon would be at least $37k. Does Elon have assured merit?

mom2collegekids: Elon Total (Out-of-State Students) $35,475

Presidential Scholarships of up to $4,500 annually are awarded to approximately the top one-fourth of entering freshmen each year. The awards are based on high school course selection, class rank, grades and SAT/ACT scores.

Elon’s SAT Critical Reading: 570 - 660
SAT Math: 570 - 660
SAT Writing: 570 - 660

from what i found a while ago/reposted: based on my SATs because I will be in the top 1/4 (my SATs are above their 25-75% range)… and the scholarship info i just posted am i right/or wrong in guessing that i will get at least $4500 merit aid? also i plan on applying for elon’s honors college fellows and liberal arts fellows programs which give in addition to the $4,500 either 3,500 or $10,000 a year i believe. what do you think?

also- pugmadkate- i didn’t mean to sound like an a**hole but re-reading what i posted earlier- i do and i’m sorry for that. it came out wrong

glido- thanks for your input!
