Parents income not included in college application

I submitted my applications for the University of Kansas and Indiana University. My parents for whatever reason did not include their income from 2013 in the application. I have been accepted to Kansas and I'm currently waiting to hear back from Indiana. Will my parents' deciding not to include their 2013 income disqualify me from scholarship consideration?

It may or may not for scholarships, but it definitely will for financial aid. They have not missed a deadline if those schools only use FAFSA (and they probably do since they are public schools). Look to see if there are separate scholarship applications you need to file or if you are automatically considered based on your application to the school. File the FAFSA in January, and there is a section for your parents to fill out.

I don’t think you have to include income on applications to be considered for FA. I think you just need to submit the FA applications on time. Look to see when those deadlines are.

Also, for scholarship consideration, go to the scholarship page online and see what they require …do they require a separate application?

I don’t think KU is known for merit scholarships. IU has some. What are your stats?

My kids applied to 11 colleges…and none asked for parent income on the admissions application…not one.

The financial aid applications are where incime is put…and assets. The FAFSA will be available for filing on January 1, 2015.

I don’t understand your situation. Did the ADMISSIONS application ask for income? Were there deadlines for financial aid that you have missed? Was there another application or a section on the ADMISSIONS application that was for financial aid? What exactly did you not fill out that was asked?

If you want financial aid, your parents will have to fill out the paperwork required for you to be considered, and they will have to give a lot of financial information, not just their income, which they will have to tell the school. They will have to permit linkage to their 2014 tax return for the school to verify, have to list all of their assets and income. If you don’t give the information, you won’t get any financial aid. Schools need the info to determine what your family need is by their definitions

I suggest you look at the websites and see if you missed out on any deadlines. The FAFSA for the school year beginning fall 2015 isn’t even available to fill out until Jan 1,2015, so you did not miss out on that If there were ancillary financial questions on the application that you did not complete, you have to call the admissions office and ask if this counts you out for any merit or financial aid considerations. THe bottom line in financial aid is that if you do not give the income info, you will not get financial aid, but whether whatever question you are referring to, has an effect, only the schools would be able to answer that question.

There were a couple schools that did ask for household income on the application for my D last year. I just gave her a rough estimate which turned out to be ~$5k less. I don’t think that is critical particularly for need blind schools.

Bill…did need blind schools ask for your incime on their admissions applications? That would be very strange…since at need blind schools admissions is not supposed to know about finances.

Some do but usually for a range. Obviously, the household income question on the application may be not for assessing your need as it does not provide sufficient information. It may be used as an indicator of social status of the student’s family. For instance, UMich asks for family income range while it is need blind.
