I confess to having skimmed this thread… Maybe I missed the part where somebody asked you what you plan to study, and which college has the academic programs you like best in that field…? That’s what a lot of students go to college for… just sayin. ;)

Rice is known and well-respected here in the MidWest. I would not label it a regional school. Rice is great and it sounds like it was a good fit for you, so that is my vote.

From your initial write up, sounds like Rice is the place you were most excited about. I would definitely disagree that Rice is a regional university. All the schools you mentioned are fine universities, and you could do a lot worse than any of them. I really echo the comments about the feel of Rice resonating with you and not really having any negatives (besides the perceived regionality, which I don’t believe for a moment).

@Sopranomom: Wow. I never thought about it that way. I will try that, starting tonight.

@Geekmom: That’s my problem…I thought I wanted to go into Biomedical Engineering (no, I was sure). Now I’m starting to realize that I am not exactly a science person (although I do get good grades in science)…It just doesn’t fire me up (outside of wanting to cure a disease a relative is suffering from)…That leaves me with a hodgepodge of other major possibilities from which I cannot decide.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Rice 2014. Win

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You’ll LOVE Rice!!!

Yea! Sounds like a great choice for you!!

Congratulations, great school. I guessed that you would. The reason being that what I 'heard" loud and clear in your first post was that it was the place you really loved, with your gut. Everything after that didn’t seem quite the same (more like distracting ‘rational’ thoughts invading your real gut feelings). I’m a giant fan of following your gut for important decisions. It will almost always take you were you will be happiest

BTW, don’t rule out your first gut interest either, which you said was medical research. Especially if you go to Rice. Ignore the stereotypes: it’s no more socially isolating than any other job. But you have lots of time to figure this out.

Great choice!!! Go owls!

You can’t go wrong with choosing Rice. Congratulations!

Congratulations indeed, Tilgaham! Have an amazing, fantastic, interesting, outstanding four years at Rice! :)

I’m pretty pumped, to say the least.

I keep checking the online system for updates and questionnaires :D
