My fear, Justamomof4, only I don't have a basement!

This is an amazing thread! NewMassDad, how about a "hello" at our daughters' UChicago graduation?

Ellemenope: Is your daughter's physics degree from a top institution/program?

hmm, one son who majored in business at Fairleigh Dickinson and who had a number of learning disabilities graduated Cum Laude and almost Magna from FD. He was invited to their graduate program, which he took advantage of in accounting and did very well. In fact, he starts a job with a large local firm in New Jersey.

My other son,who majored in accounting at Towson University went on to get a masters in Financial Planning at Bentley College and got a partial graduate scholarship for his grades.

I guess kids eventually find their niche.

Taxguy, I was wondering myself about all the "old" posters and where everyone ended up.

D was fortunate enough to earn a full academic scholarship to Furman, so she is graduating In May summa cum laude (with all the other stuff, such as Phi Beta Kappa) without any debt for her or us. President Bush will be their commencement speaker, by the way.

Then, off to grad school for PhD at Duke (again, full support, including stipend, for 5 years). She is excited and delighted to find her dreams coming true. So are we:)

S1 walks through graduation at CAL with a double major in Applied Math and Classical Civilization. Will complete his last semester next fall in Bangkok, followed by travel in the region. Plans after that are TBD.

I'm remodeling my home, so I will be well-prepared in case I end up in Justamomof4's shoes.

Our older daughter will be graduating from the University at Buffalo with majors in Dance and Political Science and a certificate in Journalism. She wants to go into broadcast journalism. She's had some great TV news internships and we're keeping our fingers crossed!

P.S. Her audition tape is great!

'my daughter graduated three years ago and is living in my basement...........'

DD graduated 1/07, DS graduated 5/07
Both are living here (own rooms, not basement), working and paying us a nominal rent :)

D will be graduating from Cornell with a BS in Industrial Labor Relations. As of now "The Plan" is to find a job in that field (maybe working for a labor union) and apply to Law School in the fall, for admittance in 2009. But if she finds a "dream job", she may defer law school for another year or so.
She started sending out resumes- but found out it's difficult to start interviewing when you are still a student. She just can't take off at a moments notice to come into NY or Boston for a job interview.
So I have a feeling, nothing is going to be settled Re: employment opportunities for a while.
I better start getting her room cleaned up as it looks like she'll be back home for a while.

Harvard

Your daughter's physics degree from Harvard is more marketable than you might think. She can probably get hired in a large technical organization AND, perhaps, have her MS funded.

schmoomcgoo--from your lips to God's ear...

D will be graduating in June from Dartmouth with a double major in Religion & English. Following the same "Plan" as Marny's D (she says she needs a break because she is schooled out and will work a year) however, she has gone back to plan where she is applying to joint degree programs for MST/JD.

Elle,

We don't have a basement either, but D says she isn't living at home but is getting an apartment in the city with the friends. Maybe we can put all of our girls together and have them pitch a tent somewhere while they are working all of this out.

Sybbie--MST = Masters of ?? Theology?

Tent idea is good one. Please, don't make me turn one of the rooms back into a bedroom!

So my comment didn't go unnoticed!

D1 did indeed graduate in 2005 - got a job in Baltimore and lived there for about a year and a half and couldn't afford the rent anymore.
She moved back home about 15 months ago for a "few" months. She does have a job - temping . She is paying for a car and student loans and finding the "real world" not so easy!
She just took her GRE's did well and will be looking at grad schools for the fall of 2009 - decided to pursue Master of Library Science. Just taking a little longer to "find herself".
Good Luck to all of your new grads! I will have one in 2009 who has promised me she will find gainful employment!

Son graduated last year from Stanford, and is gainfully employed by Google. He continues taking classes at Stanford towards MS (sponsored by the employer - yay!)

Daughter is graduating from Swarthmore this year, will spend a year abroad on a Fulbright grant, then will apply to grad schools for PhD or PhD/JD.

MST = Masters of Theological Studies

(Should I be disappointed that she did not want to go the IB/Consulting route? ) Hoping my gooddeedoer D goes to a law school with a good LRAP because yes, she wants to be a "poor" Lawyer and do gooddeeddoer work (no big law dreams for her).

JustAMomOf4,

Don't worry, we're tossing your D in the tent too!!

my bad. It should be MTS

My D will also be graduating from Furman this May cum laude. It's off to Emory School of Law with a pretty good scholly. It's been a great ride

My D will be graduating UCSD with a CS degree this year. She's already accepted a job offer at a development company and I'm happy it's in the local area. She'll be a minority in the field (female in CS) but that doesn't bother her. She's worked very hard in school for all these years and I think is looking forward to what she thinks is the 'soft life' of working for a living.
