Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Our Seniors are doing a senior pic in the quad in their shirts in a week. Everyone is included those who are military bound, CC bound 4 year and tech bound. It’s a new traditions started by yours truly because I don’t think we celebrate their future plans enough.

Missypie Hope your S is right too.

AP Calc yesterday, AP Lit today … AP Lit teacher poured the work on the last few weeks, but has announced after today … nothing. (He is a grader for the exams, so misses much of the end of the term anyway). D is SO glad to be wrapping this up.

^^ Same here. Followed by AP Euro tomorrow and Latin/Vergil next week.

And then (as previously mentioned), Laundry 101.

I guess for S’s college search one of the top criteria will be laundry service, then we’ll look at the ‘other’ important things on his list!

Historymom, Love that idea, maybe I’ll suggest it to D!

D has one more next week - AP Physics C - not expecting too much, it’s been tough taking it concurrently with Calc this year

Next week AP Chem – they have been given a lot of review problems (past tests, etc.); she’s expecting that one to be the hardest, though, so she’s spent a lot of time reviewing. She has AP Psych the same day, but “not worried” about that one she says!

CMS (Claremont Mckenna, Mudd, Scripps) has a laundry service for their athletes.

That settles it. geek_son will totally try out for sports when he finds this out. Especially if they pick up!

Son’s school took the Senior Class picture on the day that the choir was out at a competition that had been on the school calendar all year. Oh well, one less thing to buy…

I forgot to mention that our AP Lit test was cancelled today because we had a 2 hour fog delay. Those kids will have to do the retake on the 20th. Luckily D wasn’t part of that group (she’s taking language). It was really really foggy this morning so I understand the delay since all these kids drive themselves and it wouldn’t have been safe.

Tomorrow evening is the end of the year “banquet” for the In the Know team. For the first time in forever the team is bigger than just 8 or so kids so they’re stuck doing pizza in the cafeteria. D wasn’t thrilled but she’ll enjoy herself. They do puzzles that are really impossible (especially for the parents) then give out awards. She will be an official member (only one this year) of the 1000 point club.

FOG delay! That’s a new one. We just get snow delays.

My lessons for the summer will be food prep. Both know how to do the basics, make pasta, brown ground beef but I think they need to have a couple of decent meals they know how to prepare.

My worry is that when she isn’t doing sports, my little carb addict will suffer the effects of a diet with not enough protein and too much carbohydrate. She knows good nutrition, just doesn’t practice it as she should.

geek_mom would there be a particular sport involved? The brainiest boys at our high school play soccer.

Trust central OH to have cruddy weather. We’ve even had fog delays because of snow on the ground. A few years ago we had school cancelled for several days because it was too cold for the kids to stand out and wait for the buses.

I think we’ve had only one snow day in my sons entire HS career. It takes something beyond blizzard and cold to shut down our schools. Of course, we don’t have snow days to make up either.

Son took AP Calc and will only have the AP Bio test next week. He opted to not do the AP latin lit as he took vergil last year and his college will only accept one AP for credit (actually, I don’t think it’s credit as much as standing). It’s amazing the way different schools apply AP credit (or not as the case may be).

At the end of the AP Lit exam, they announced the Top 20, the Val and the Sal. I’m pleased with the Top 20 but I must admit I’ve never heard the Val’s name in my life. Seriously. The guy must have been studying every minute. The Sal was mean to my son in elem school. He and Son have gotten past that but as Son’s mom, the guy’s never been one of my favorites.

No Fog (never heard of them before!) or snow days here in So Cal…occassionally for fires though…breathing gets bad with all that smoke & ash

missypie, those mommy grudges die hard. There is a boy who made it his life’s work to torment my D in 5th grade. The little excrement head moved away but is back this year. Shame on me but I do hope that he is simultaneously stricken with a horrible rash, pink eye and an ear infection on graduation day.

Well looking on the bright side, I’ll be far less likely to cry during the speeches as they will be given by a kid I’ve never heard of and a kid I’ve never liked…if the speeches were given by a good friend of Son’s they’d be harder to get through.

Can anybody think of any memorable graduation speeches or stories about same? At my sister’s HS graduation, the speech was given by the Val…no biggie except that his twin brother had been expelled from school about two weeks before due to something he did at prom. What must those parents have felt like?

S must be just finishing his APLit. I just realized that I never heard about his Senior picture–except the one we had taken. I wonder if he had one taken and if so what he wore. Should be interesting.
HS I have to admit I keep waiting for your D to change her mind and come to WU. But great that she is in the Honors program! and too bad for Scripts.
OK–I basically do not iron–maybe a total of an hour a year. We are of the put it in the dryer for 5 minutes and then hang wet to dry and if need be use your hands as an iron to smooth out club. Now how is S going to hang wet clothes up to dry?? I sure hope the school offers laundry services. D was able to sign up for one that I think a student group ran for profit…it worked great.
I see blue sky–gasp!

S should be finishing up AP Lit just about now.
-O101 - S is a cross country and distance runner, so I’m sure they’ll meet up on the track! Those colloquium topics sure sounded fun.
-SJTH - S is looking forward to the healthy balance Willamette seems to strike between academics and athletics and can’t wait to meet his new teammates. And yes, D is coming home next week, though returning to Portland shortly to find a summer job. We’ll see how that pans out.
-HMW - this athletes’ laundry thingie is a revelation.
-Hmom - I know, I was so disappointed when you mentioned your D dropped it (then added it back in?) then dropped it again. I could tell you were drawn to it like I was. But she’ll have a blast wherever she ends up.

Phew, it’s hard keeping up with all of you. I’ve got to get on my game.
