Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

D1 gets athletic laundry service at her small DIII LAC. Unfortunately they only do practice and game gear including sports bras. D2 will get service also at her DI so I will be interested in seeing what all they will do. She will head to school at the end of July. I can hardly believe it! :(

Have people coming to power wash the deck later this afternoon. Mulch delivered tomorrow. Got some flowers today. Book club tonight. Need a haircut deperately. I am sooo tired!

I am told that they are home often enough that it is ok. We shall see. It really is about the transition, mind blowing. I am very excited for My D but a huge part of my life is changing and you just don’t know what that will be. I know someone who really thinks her child will not be able to make it in college. will come home. I raise my kids to be independent and would be sad if I had not prepared them for the next step. it just can be painful. I look forward to hearing about her new life. But the house will be verrrry quiet! anyway I usually cry in advance, will definately cry at graduation, the long car ride home from D’s school is already being dreaded by my H. My house will be cleaner for sure. I envy my kids too, wouldn’t it be awesome to have the opportunities they have now? anyway had my cry, migraine gone, thanks for the empathy. It’s really all good. Imagine how we would feel if things were different?

Thanks a bunch guys. made my day. Time to pick up the kids until the brakes are fixed will find out about AP lit!

I waited too long to make an appointment and now the next few Saturdays are fully booked with prom and banquet girls.

Oh no! I totally spaced out the prom/banquet hair appts!!

geek_mom not to worry! She doesn’t know the degree to which we cyber meddle. I simply shared your sweet post on the Scripps forum with her and told her that your S was going to Mudd. I told her that meeting him was likely but not something I would instigate.

BTW seems like the poster who said that girls were coming off the Scripps WL was either mistaken or being a ■■■■■. Another WL hopeful Scrippsie called the admissions office today and was told they haven’t touched their WL yet.

OhhhhNorthM–goodluck! I just changed my own so that I go to the athletic banquet the day of rather than the day before the appointment.
S said the APLit was “fine”. guess it was and that is for sure all we will hear about it here. Maybe someone with a D could let us know how it was.

I haven’t heard any details, but Son said he wrote the best essays he’s ever written in his life. I tend to believe him because he’s either hot or cold - totally inspired or totally uninspired. Last year he said the same thing about Psych and got his only 5 of his AP exam career.

history, S2 was very happy with AP Lit. Whew. He was sweating that more than AB Calc.

Opposite in our house–D thought AP Lit was not a big deal. Calc AB–looking forward to taking it again in college! AP Bio Monday, AP Euro Thursday, then a month of school doing who knows what until graduation.

chintzy, isn’t AP Euro tomorrow afternoon? World history is next Thursday.

sharonohio, you’re absolutely correct! I had Euro stuck in my brain from reading others’ posts. Can’t even figure out why she took World–she doesn’t particularly like history.

Euro is definitely tomorrow. (xposted!)

And this

totally cracked me up. All we heard here was “fine,” too.

my d took AP Lit and she said, one essay was about symbolism, one was Shakespeare-Henry the 8th, and the third was using a short story provided. She thought the mc were easy and only the third essay a bit challenging.

World History is my favorite one to tease the kids about
all you have to know is everything that has ever happened in the history of the world

theorySon thinks he probably got at least a 4 on the AP calc. yesterday. He tends to underestimate so I hope he is correct. He hold out no such hope for AP Bio on Monday which he says they did not get through in class. He claims he would take Bio again in college anyway - which left me wondering why I paid the $$ to register him for the test. But he LIKES to take tests - he says they tell him where he is. so

We are still in limbo-land on rpi/wpi but S wrote admissions and asked about commitment timing. I suppose if enough time were allowed (that would mean right after graduation) we could go visit and make a real comparison. Somehow I bet they will need to know before a month’s time - and if that is the case, I will be hard pressed to make son lean toward RPI.

Son said they didn’t even take a practice exam in AP Bio
I thought that test wasn’t until next weds and they’d get to it. But tomorrow is the seniors last day and Saturday is prom and following prom is a senior after party for the entire class which goes until 5am
I really hope he doesn’t need to study.

At accepted students day the Bio dept. chair said they don’t give credit for AP Bio–how motivated do you think my D is?

That was my D’s attitude! The teacher (she takes Hi Level IB Math) gave the kids a packet of old AP questions the night before the AP test and said that he would meet at 6 am with any kids who had questions the morning of the AP test at the local Mickie D’s.

My D freaked out because there were so many questions that she had no clue how to solve and no time to “learn.” Talk about a psychological downer! Hello, Calculus teacher–if you are going to do this, you could have given out the packet a month (even a week) ago!! GRRRR

My S said his AP Lit went pretty good - “a 4 or 5”
this was the class he dubbed “the hardest class & teacher I’ve ever had in high school”
guess it paid off
hopefully - we’ll see what the test results are later.
