Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

D is still in her AP Physics C, I think she is almost done…

I think after this afternoon, it will end her academic side of high school…another step closer to the end.

AP Psych tomorrow for D2. She is not feeling well! :frowning: Not sure if it is a bad cold or allergies??? Runny nose, barky cough, sore throat. Never been diagnosed with allergies but it is the time of year. Think I will try Clariton D for her. Any other suggestions for relief before the test tomorrow???

What does the national French exam mean?
d is done with exams, is looking forward to college, looking up the use of pepper spray for city protection. Pretty funny, she usually doesn’t thinkof these things.
? what is better laptop or desktop. It took me 3 hours to get my invites for grad party, because of virus ridden OLD computer, you guys all seem so smart thought I would ask!

NorthMinnesota_usual stuff, tea with honey and lemon, tyleno/advil/ rest and fluids. Too bad it is before a test.

NorthMinn: same here w/ my son. He took AP Music Theory today and came home and went straight to be but needs to review for the AP Psych tomorrow. His nose is bright red and he said his ears are ringing… I think it’s a cold but the wind was really stirring up lots of pollen, etc yesterday here. I gave him DayQuill and also saline solution to flush the nasal passages… poor kids… they soooo don’t need to feel bad when dealing w/ final days of school/tests.

Sounds like they are all getting toward the finish line w/the APs! I’m not sure what the nat’l French exam is, although I wish I could speak that beautiful language.

LOL cpelz & lindz! At a certain point it almost gets a little comical (why not throw in a school prank at the end of the year? Evidently the razor’s edge you were skating on is just not quite sharp enough…!).

S was OK with Physics Mechanics, but said E&M ate his shorts.

Big news - I got a puppy! I got a puppy!

northminn and dizzi–those nasal “irrigation” cups are helpful, esp for allergies. I’d stay away from medication tomorrow since might make them drowsy.

firefly–what kind of puppy? how fun

just got home from d’s award banquet, we didn’t know she was in the top 5% of graduating class…(she is so not into tracking that stuff) she’ll have fun “sharing” that with big bro.

I got a male chocolate Lab, which we’ve named Ranger. H and S claim it’s from Lord of the Rings, I say it’s from the Janet Evanovich series.

we have a golden retriever puppy, named Layla…love labs too, sooo sweet.

Those nasal irrigation cups are called netipots. They cost about $8-10 at the drug store and come with a supply of the saline solution to mix with the water.

My S said some of the FRQ on the mechanics portion of the AP Physics C test were “pure evil.”

Dd is taking AP Psych tomorrow, so she’s at a rock concert tonight! She has a combination of senioritis and high self-confidence, plus the knowledge that her college doesn’t give credit for it anyway. That should have been her last AP test except her AP Physics C test today got cancelled!! The school had the wrong test. The CollegeBoard could have sent the wrong one, or her overworked head counselor might have made a mistake in the order. Some students are probably celebrating 2 more weeks to study, but my dd just wants it done already. Has anyone else had this type of experience?

Yesterday was our pup’s 1st birthday. He is part collie and part lab. His name is Runnur and we all adore him. Soooooooo sweet.

My kids make fun of me because I love this dog so much! :)

FFS, enjoy your puppy! So sweet and special.

Lol at the pre-AP preparation via concert, 50isthenew40. Ah, senioritis.

Congrats on the new pup, fireflyscout! Yours sounds cut too, lindz. Our whole family is pining for a new pup (doggie passed away 2 years ago this month). Son just lobbied tonight to get a puppy before he leaves in August.

I’m thinking we could use a happy, furry distraction, come August…

fireflyscout, Ranger from Evanovich = awesome. He’s THAT cute, huh? :D

lindz, sweet news about your D!

NMinn, hope your D feels better fast.

National French exam is one of those standardized tests, taken at the same time all over the US, yielding results that rank you, well, nationally. E.g., missing a certain number means you’re ranked, say, 7th (along w a lot of other kids) nationally. There’s one for Latin, and I believe for Spanish, too. (French and Latin are the ones we have experience with.)

I have got six furry distractions. I show (and occasionally breed - like once every 3 or 4 years) malamutes, and I have 6 little piglets born between midnight and 5 on Thursday morning. I am still sleep deprived but nothing like the momma who is a saint

S claims he probably got a 3 on the AP Bio exam. Which is better than he expected! (I wondered why then he bothered to take it)
Decided S is going to a vocal camp early this summer before we take our (probably) last summer vacation together.
Eek! so many lasts coming up - BUT so many firsts too, so exciting

D is studying hard for her finals tomorrow in her two university classes. She finished her AP Calc BC test last week, so will be down to Jazz Band for the next 3 weeks. Unfortunately it meets at 7:30 am!

I’m anxious to see if she can actually relax now. (and perhaps clean up her room that has looked like a tornado hit it)

It’s so bittersweet to be so proud of her and yet know that big changes are just around the corner for all of us.

theorymom – you have PUPPIES at your house? So much fun and so little sleep … talk about adding to the whirlwind!

We took our “last” family vacation together the summer after D1 graduated from HS. Since then we’ve managed several other (short) family vacations, and will squeeze a week in together in June. Serendipities do happen!

S’s last AP test was Music Theory. He said it was much harder than Calc or Lit.

Coming up this week: Dual credit Economics final, academic awards ceremony, cello recital, orchestra banquet. Next week there are two more concerts and Court of Honor at Scouts. And probably some more tests and finals, but I’m pretty sure he has no more plans to study.

I am glad to hear puppy news. That might be the answer for me in August, too.
