Parents of the HS Class of 2010 and college years beyond (Part 1)

Checkers - You were close! Just add the : after :cool and you will also be

I did it!!! way  but still cant make a heart

Smiling all the way to the Ice Cream shop !

Ooooh, ice cream! ;)

:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: to you and your D, Psychmom. Hope it all goes smoothly and that your D has an easy recovery.

KS - totally donā€™t blame you for not wanting to have to drive home alone after dropping your D off. Weā€™ve decided to rent a minivan rather than a large SUV. Hope that was the right decision. The stuff thatā€™s going is rapidly increasing.

GSharp - so glad things are working out for you! Iā€™m so happy that you found a new position so quickly. Not surprised to hear that you were snapped up so quickly.

Havenā€™t given much thought to moving just yet. S is just entering high school, so Iā€™m pretty sure weā€™ll be here for at least 4, probably more, years.

psychmom and austinmtmom-thanks for the private tutorial on colorizing. ;)

:heart::heart::heart: Thatā€™s purple. :heart::heart::heart: Thatā€™s blue. Iā€™m so :cool:

DB, how did the job interview go? I am also seeking a new job. Iā€™m not looking as hard as I should thoughā€¦ my current job gives me summers off (well mostly off, I work a few hours per week) and itā€™s hard to get motivated to look for another job while Iā€™m enjoying my time off.

Also, who was right about your hearing - you, or your DH?

psychmom - Sorry your D has to have her wisdom teeth removed. Sending positive thoughts your/her way.

jackief - Enjoy the cape!

Woo hoo to p56 and Checkers!

showmom - So glad your D is getting to go to college in the fabulous Big Apple. I am sure she must be over the moon!!

momof3sons - You are TOTALLY !!

I am home alone (well, not counting the 4-legged family members) so I am having a delicious microwave pizza and chocolate wafers for dessert. Oh, and a diet Coke 2010 (a very good year!) So sad! Although ā€œbaby catā€ seems to find my pizza very appealing. Mustā€¦goā€¦toā€¦groceryā€¦storeā€¦

Hi everyone, wanted to get that updated quickly so I didnā€™t crosspost with anyone.
Wow this thread seems to just keep moving faster!
We are back from Maine, DH was able to fly up for a few days and then drive home with us, which was great, although we certainly missed S1 who was home and working. Seems he didnā€™t throw any parties while we are gone, so all is well.

I canā€™t believe some of you send your kids off so soon!
I am very happy we have a few more weeks before sending off D1.

Dorm shopping is underway, and tonight we looked at few stores at computers.

Question: How long do you expect your kids to use these laptops?
When we sent S1 off, we hoped it would last all four years though we knew it may not. Here we are two years later, the computer no longer works, needs major updates, a new power supply and a new battery. I know he is pretty rough on his things, but most of the problems donā€™t seem to be his fault.
He canā€™t really afford a new computer, and I am tempted to buy him a new one, but I donā€™t necessarily want to set a precedent of buying a new computer half way through undergrad, what with four kids. If this is as long as we can expect laptops to last though, I will suck it up and buy each a new one halfway through. What are your thoughts on this?

it may just be me, but pcā€™s never last long with my kidsā€¦ but their apples last longer. son still has his first apple he got in 2002, other son still has his from 4 years ago with no problems, meanwhile 3 other pcā€™s have died during that time at about 2-3 years,

Good point about the PCā€™s not lasting as long, his is a Dell. Thinking we may go with the mac for D.

Sā€™s PC lasted 3 or 4 years - he got it fall of junior year in hs, replaced it at the end of soph year of college. Iā€™m hoping Dā€™s does as well, she also got hers fall of junior year.

Sonā€™s is a Dell. Heā€™s had it about 3 years. This past spring, he rebuilt it. New hard drive, new battery, and more memory. Bought all the parts on EBAY for a reasonably cheap price and my father in law helped install everything. Runs GREAT and a lot cheaper than a new computer.
