Parents of the HS Class of 2010 and college years beyond (Part 1)

So, apparently I can cut and paste and move my name on the list, but I can’t remember to update “the date!” So will the next person who updates change my date from 8/10 to 8/14 please  Don’t want to repost the entire list for that little change…

Trying to catch up up with the pet stories. Whe I got to Lafalum’s line “Mom, the cat exploded. Again.” I laughed out loud. Funniest thing I have read in a long while! We have a 6 year old cat - H found him outside crying under a window - he was 3 weeks old, the size of a beanie baby. H didn’t think we would keep him (I was allergic to pet dander as a kid), but while he was coaching a soccer game the next day, I took the cat to a local vet, who told me that if we had not brought the cat inside the night before he might not have made it - he weighed 8 ounces and his temperature was ten degrees below what it should have been. Clearly, he got separated from his mother. Well, that was that. He came home with us. Fast forward to now, when Shadow weighs 16 pounds. He has some medical issues and H swears (a little too much  ) that he can’t stand the cat, but he is now a part of the family. Because he was so used to humans at an eary age, he is definitely a lap cat and needs his cuddle time most days. He will climb over the laptop if I am not paying attention to him and gently “head butt” my chin so I will pet him. The main issue with him is that if he wants to play (with us or a guest), he is prone to nipping until a toy is produced. He is social, though. Runs to the door when the bell rings and needs to greet everyone who comes in.

I was so busy posting about the cat, I forgot to add D to the move in day list. Just over 3 weeks until we leave. The variety of dates on this list is amazing.

oh you guys look incredible on this monitor LOL !! you must have all been to the spa!! what a wonderful invention…a computer that actually works with a huge screen!!

Just experimented a little, cooked myself a boneless porkchop, made a reduction of red wine and chicken broth, tossed in some fresh rosemary and added some canned cranberry sauce I had in the pantry. threw the perk chop in to coat it with the sauce, very yummy. I also made a salad with a simple herb vinaigrette and some garlic roasted new potatoes. A nice glass of the wine I uncorked for the pork chop and not a bad solo dinner!

^Yum. I’m coming over.

sure beats the hotdog i just ate!!

For lunch, I had mini Whoppers and a diet Coke while watching Inception.

ok -
as I was driving home from dropping my MIL at airport had the following thought -

What’s the point in birthing these babies if they’re gonna go and leave me 18 years later?
Holy crap this is really happening!

Since I’m first, let the pity party begin!

oh AL34, it will be okay!!! hugs!!!

^^Oh AL34, that was exactly the point…raise em for 18 years and then get back to LIFE!

AL34, it is going to be great. I am so proud of how capable my son is, just from boarding school. You will be sad, but think of how wonderful it is to raise a good child to adulthood. It is all going to be mostly wonderful, I promise!

Forget the words, pass the wine! It’s starting…
(not fair…I’m losing my D at 17!)

S will be 19 in October, but he left at 14 going on 15!

Just added D to the move in list…2.5 weeks…hard to believe after all of this planning for the last couple of years, the day is almost here…D had her wisdom teeth out on Friday and it went very well…She is already out tonite at the movies.

Does anyone eles get offended when someone tells them that your child’s school is thier child’s safety??? I swear, I almost blew a gasket when my neigbor ,who has a S that is a rising senior, told me that yesterday…he hasn’t even applied anywhere yet and they are very CLUELESS and NAIVE about the whole college thing…she knows that D’s school is very hard to get into but apparently her son is the resident genious now…I will be anxious to see how all that goes for them come next April  END RANT

I have finally caught up with this thread! WOW it moves fast!

Telling someone that your child’s school is their kid’s safety is gauche. And rude.

P56, H & I had hot dogs for dinner too. Leftover from D’s camping trip. How pathetic is that?

pitchfork ready swtcat!! just say the word!!

i dont even have the excuse of camping laf… it was hmmm nuke a hotdog or have a bowl of cereal

Went to Fort Mason in SF for a Craft Fair, called Renegade Craft Fair. It was well advertised and many showed up. There were about 220 booths, housed in a large enclosed pier. All kinds of artsy stuff, lot of jeweleries, tee shirts, prints, pottery and others. Everything looks expensive to me, $2 for a greeting card, $55 for a scarf, 100+ for a dress, 200 for a vase, 25 for a bowl and 50 for a jar. We did not buy anything.

Next door is the Barney’s New York Warehouse “Sale”, prices there are out of the world to me, as is stuff is about 450 for a man’s suit(a mark down from about $1300), ladies stuff starts at around 100.

We still need to pay for the tuition at around 60K… yike…

I got back from vacation a little while ago and wanted to add my son’s move in date to the list. Now to read all the missed posts.

Hi All! We’re back  Thanks to whomever changed D’s date for me! The Container Store & Ikea sidetrips went well; just have to pick up toiletries & shopping will be done.

Trip was great but I’m glad to be home. The reality has hit: this time next week I’ll be sitting here in my living room but D will be all moved into her dorm! On the way home D & I realized that in the next 5 days she needs to get a haircut, pack all her clothing, have her dental checkup, attend the senior sendoff for our youth group, plus she has two groups of friends that she has to hang out with. So, um, yeah. Here it comes.

Vballmom: I’m sorry to hear about your dog. We’ve had a few cats that have passed on, and honestly, I’ve never cried as hard in my life as when I’ve had to deal with pet losses.

Off to rent a mini van for next weekend…
