Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

OMG, keylimepie, MAKE him pick that one! Offer a KLP stipend or something! :)

Mommylaw, great story, and I think you’re absolutely right about what happened. Good for your d! It sounds like she’s really thought this through in a very mature way and has made the best decision for herself. Congrats!

Pepper, I KNOW! I used to feel so capable with quoting abilities, and now a bit in loser-ville with the other cool visual stuff that’s popping up. I will have to get on that!

I also love how this group takes command of the ship, notices when things go awry on other threads, fixes them, etc. A bit compulsive we are, yet I’m so happy to have found my people!

**RenMom - Congrats on Brown!

Proudmomof2** - I wouldn’t do anything until a new decision is made. It’s doubtful that you would get the deposit back now so you might as well hold the position until she commits to a Texas school. If she changes her mind back to the original decision, you are covered with the original committment and deposit.

Pepper, glad your son is home safe and sound, with tales to tell!

Sb is having a banner week. Just received email from Director of Hillsdale’s Honors Program that she’s been accepted. Just 30 kids in the program, and we hear it’s fabulous. Very excited! Though she’s been very emotional.

I think the news about “Oklahoma” followed by this news, at the same time she’s spending 6-8 hrs a day (on Spring Break) writing papers/preparing for tests in May (so she can focus on her Recital and other Senior things in May) is taking its toll. It all just seems a little too much, emotionally, right now.

Amandak, I’m so sorry Easter was so painful and difficult for you. It takes time to work through the “memory-anniversaries,” not to mention take on the role of doing things your Mom used to do. I’m thinking of you and hope this week has you feeling more balanced and serene.

We have so much going on between now and July 1, we’ve kind of decided to save all college shopping for July/early Aug. Anybody see a problem with that?

. Thanks so much, Ohiomom, amanda, and others for your warm support. I think Emmybet, Holliesue, and others with performing kids would agree that you have to be so careful IRL in sharing this kind of news…there are kids who are disappointed not to have been cast, competitiveness in parents, all sorts of unpleasantness. But when I post about sb here, I feel like you guys are her fairy godmothers. Thank you so much for that! I’m still hoping to figure out (post-July, probably, when I come up for air) how to post a snippet of her singing online to share.

Missypie, tell the nun story, pleeese.

Welcome back, RenMom, and congrats on Brown! We’ve missed you! (Yikes, what a pain about the computer!!!)

Ouch RenMom, glad you’re back with us and congratulations on Brown!

RenMom - Welcome back and Congratulations on Brown! Sorry about the computer troubles; I’ve been there and it’s extremely annoying.

Just when I thought that I will be on the ship till the end, my DS made his decision last night. (With 2-3 days to spare!)

Go Blue Devils!

Today he has a difficult task of sending rejections to the other 8 schools :(

keylimepie ~ Congrats on Duke with the special scholarship!!!

Renmom ~ Congrats on Brown!

Proudmomof2 ~ Yes, definitely keep school #1, until no longer needed.

Hurray for the latest decisions. Good thoughts for those still on the boat. I agree with others proudmomof2- don’t lose the UC placement until your D has another place she wants to go to.

fogfog- I understand your feelings, even though I don’t share them. A compromise would be if the shutterfly members posted pics of themselves, rather than their shy kids/spouses. But again, only if they want to do so, as far as I am concerned.

Feeling kind of groggy this am because our 90 lb “lap” dog got scared of the thunder in the early morning hours and hopped right into bed with us, pressing against me like my D did after nightmares as a child. I was sound asleep but on autopilot went into soothing mom mode just as I did those many years ago. Took me a few minutes to realize the “baby” had fur and, wait a minute, I don’t have a little one any more. I guess once a mom, always a mom.

I see that yesterday was another busy day on this thread. I love signing on in the morning and seeing all the good news.

Mom2: Congrats to your D for getting off the WL. I know that it just complicates things, but it’s nice to have choices.

Tessa - Congratulations on Harvard! My nephew and his wife are alums and they had four amazing years there.

MM: Sorry that your daughter is still undecided.

Momofzach: I’m glad to hear that envelope is in the mail.

Proudmom: I agree with the others that you should hang on to UC for now. Good luck with the next set of visits.

Renmom: Welcome back and congrats on Brown (althought I was rooting for Penn).

MOSB: Congratulations on the honors acceptance. I remember how hard your daughter worked on that application.

Keylime: Congrats on the Duke decision. There are too many Terps and Tarheels in my family to say “go B— D----s.”

Amanda: I’m sorry that Easter was tough. I think that the hardest part of losing someone is that it makes every happy occasion bittersweet because they aren’t there.

My D1 officially becomes a college senior today. Penn has a tradition called “Hey Day” after the last day of classes where the juniors march through the campus with straw hats and canes. It seems like she just graduated from HS.

Wow! Is it me or did this thread make me fat? It was 80 and humid yesterday and expected the same today, but jeez louise either my dryer shrunk everything or cc made me fat. Ugh.

amandak - It’s definitely dryer’s fault.

Mosb – I forgot to congratulate you and sb on the acceptance to the Honors college at Hillsdale. Hurray to both of you!

**keylimepie - Congrats on DUKE!

mosb - Congrats on the Honors at Hillsdale!**

AK- the dryer- certainly not us! We are too

**The SS Indecision left port on April 1st.

The ship will stop in a few additional ports this month with the last port of call scheduled in 4 days when all final commitments to schools are due.

Just a note that while many schools are stating that acceptances need to be postmarked by May 1st, that date is a Sunday and the post offices are closed. The last day for postmarks is SATURDAY, APRIL 30th. (Unless your chosen port/school will accept an email or will extend to Monday, May 2nd - many will not so be careful!)

For our last minute shoppers, there is a 50% off special in the ship shops today on all t-shirts and other logo wear. Styles and sizes vary and are limited so get your souvenier logo apparel now before they are all gone!**

I believe these would be the perfect items to buy at the gift shop before disembarking - [CC Mugs, Totes, and More : College Confidential Shop](CC Mugs, Totes, and More : College Confidential Shop)

OMG. Our obsession has a gift shop! I think I’ll ask for the mug for Mother’s Day.

Wish they had a little sort of pin so we all could have found each other at admissions events…

D will disembark by midnight April 30 but climb into a rowboat called “waitlist” and slowly make her way to shore…she’s packed her craft with treats from the midnight buffet and a recent copy of InStyle magazine.

Now if they only added the SS Indecision then I would buy in a minute!

I was looking at Hampshire’s apparel on its website. To the best of our knowledge, and not surprising considering its free spirit nature, Hampshire appears not to have school colors or a school mascot. The shirts/sweatshirts come in a plethora of colors. While a frog is used on some of their literature and a tree on the Tshirt provided on accepted student day, these symbols do not seem to be universally adopted. D noted that the version of the tree on the gift t-shirt looked amazingly like another 5 finger-leafed plant. Gee, that must be a coincidence, right?

Good Morning all,

:D Congrats to Mosb - on the Honors at Hillsdale! :D

The :email: please…Keylimepie’S wonderful son will attend Duke University as an A.B Duke scholar!

The :email: please… Renmom’S wonderful son will attend Brown University!

Waving to Arisamp…Decision yet??

These next few days are going to be SO eventful here!! Congrats to everyone!!

Welcome back, RenMom - we missed you!

Yesterday we got our box that was supposed to be celebratory t-shirts and sweatshirts … well, the sweatshirts are out of stock (but due in soon) and they sent the wrong t-shirt. Ah well, we’ll forgive them. We all ordered 2 things, so everyone has at least something to wear in the meantime.

D texted me this morning: Can I drop the AP Calc exam? It’s stressing her out. ABSOLUTELY! In her case it will do her no good for college (she’s only taking AB, and they require a 5 for any credit, anyway, plus she’d rather take science than math for gen eds). It was nice telling her she’s in the driver’s seat on this one (especially since we haven’t paid the $86 yet!). She can focus on Lit and Gov, which she has a much higher chance of doing well on and being able to use. She’s going to e-mail her Honors College dean to doublecheck; this also is good, because it puts them in a conversation, which will be very inspiring to D, since they had such a delightful interview in February.

Classof2015: my thoughts are with you on the WL. I think D’s WL school is becoming more of a “thanks, but no thanks” on her part. But I know your D is really hoping hard, and I’ll put my wishes in her basket from now on.

kinderny: That is SO Hampshire! Gotta love it.
