<p>boysx3 - wow! I about wanted some popcorn to read that fascinating tale! That mom is some piece of work. I can’t wait to hear how the son really is without the mom hovering. Glad to hear they’re too far away for too many pop in visits. </p>

<p>Good for neighbors son for sticking to his guns! </p>

<p>PN - don’t get too excited when I tell you this but I bought a present for you son. That’s right. We bought a couple extra doorstoppers while at the hardware store today figuring some kids might want them and not realize they need them. It’ll be a nice weird way for our boys to meet - I told S he could just give some to the kids around him who need them. They were on sale for $2.</p>

<p>These stories are great! DD launches in a week, so this is the last weekend to prepare. Got a lot done, but not ready to get on the plane yet. Younger siblings are feeling it.</p>

<p>What a wonderful launch day today at Carnegie Mellon. We started at the dorm move at 8:00 am -it said to be there at 9:00 but we got there at 8 and they took us right in. By 9:00 am, we were done and on the way to register for orientation. Then set up the bank account and had a bite to eat. Carnegie literally had food all over the place. We ate our way thru move-in day - LOL.</p>

<p>At 11:00 we were at the Hillel and what an excellent visit. All very chill and a great group. My son says he’ll give it a go - so that’s good news.</p>

<p>By 12:30, we were back to main campus at the University Center and they were serving lunch to everyone. Stations of food from all the different eating places on campus. OMG - stuffed.</p>

<p>Then off to Target to get some last minute forgotten items…</p>

<p>At 4:00 the President talked to the entire incoming class and then we went out for a dinner of wings at [Best</a> Wings USA, Chicken Wings, Wing Sauce, Family Restaurant Chain, Quaker Steak & Lube](<a href=“http://thelube.com/]Best”>http://thelube.com/) and then we said our goodbyes.</p>

<p>A few tears later and I’m sitting in my hotel room with the hubby and a nice beverage.</p>

<p>And then tomorrow we get to get up early and drive to Northwestern to visit DS1. </p>

<p>But it’s all good!!! :)</p>

<p>Kleibo, my DS, a senior at CMU took the redeye home from his summer internship in CA on Saturday night to help with move in today. Glad to hear it went well.</p>

<p>Boysx3 - Glad you were there to stand behind your friends at move-in! Sometimes having more people around can make a bully slow their roll although I shudder to think what she’s like if she actually pulled it back a bit during move-in! Maybe we need to think of her being filled with tons of angst as her oldest (?) goes off to college more than an hour from her clutches. Otherwise, we’d just think she’s a total whackjob. </p>

<p>You’ll probably win the award for craziest move-in or orientation story! But I’m warning you now that I’m definitely gonna claim at least an Honorable Mention! I haven’t told it here yet but have shared it with some people off-CC. I just got back from my 2000-mile round trip, move-in, and orientation activities so will have to share the weird stuff later.</p>

<p>I’m just soooo glad this is not MY story…I feel badly enough for my neighbor having to angst through all this, worrying about her son tonight.</p>

<p>I am honored to be considered in the running for a story award…but my reward is being allowed to read your thread and contribute sometimes…</p>

<p>I am also so lucky to have made friends with my neighbor…we moved here only 2 years ago, after my kids had all flown the coop. My H travels extensively, and so does neighbor’s H… We made friends while walking our dogs. I was able to help her with the college search/application season for her son, and I will be helping her daughter (will be a high school junior this fall).</p>

<p>I am sure her H will be rolling on the floor after hearing her version of today’s events.</p>

<p>Woody…you do need to share, it’s not nice to be selfish with good stories.</p>

<p>As usual, eyemamom - we are living parallel lives. S has a blanket his girlfriend made him that’s 8 or 9 feet long that he’ll be bringing! LOL Aw - what a nice thing to get extra doorstops! I already got one for S - maybe I’ll just leave it at home? </p>

<p>boysx3 - thanks for sharing! I’m glad you were there for your friend too. If nothing else, at least she has someone who will believe her as the year progresses and the stories get weirder and weirder! And in the meantime, reading about her makes us all look so wonderfully sane!</p>

<p>Hmmm, I just took the time to really look at the schedule for the next 2 days. We still have to turn the random dorm mountain into a well packed car, get the oil changed on S’s car, and I have a friend’s show I simply MUST got to Tuesday night, and a recording session most of the day Tuesday. Do me a favor wackaloons - if I’m on CC much tomorrow, smack me and send me out to get some packing done!</p>

Yes, they are all happy at USD. It is a small campus, I think small class sizes. I hope she is very happy there. We used to live in WA. Love the Pac NW.</p>

<p>So glad to hear about all the move-in stories. Last night was tough because DS is going through recruitment. Last night he was bidless, friendless and doubting everything. Today he has 2 bids and feels loved. It will be interesting to see where he lands.</p>

<p>Boysx3- good for you helping out with neighbor’s launch. Sounds like she needed a bit of moral support. I hope the roommate turns out to be a nice, agreeable person! Some people just don’t seem to get compromise, just look at our government!</p>

<p>Just noticed that acceptances for the class of 2017 are now sticky noted. I was wondering when that would happen.</p>

<p>We’re having a great visit with my FIL, SIL and her two younger kids. Lots of fun, but we leave on Thursday and nothing is packed! Guests here until Tuesday. I hope we can get all the packing done in two days. At least ds doesn’t have a ton of clothes. He really doesn’t need to decide what goes and what stays. He doesn’t have enough to leave anything behind.</p>

<p>It’s an odd feeling to watch the launch dates march up the screen. Every time I see it, it seems more real and the butterflies start flapping again!</p>

<p>Boysx3 - I read your post to s and hubby. Made for some amusing conversation while S and I sat on the couch last night for a little while. Well I sat while he laid his big legs and feet on me. He’s so practical and pragmatic, he says he’s not nervous and he doesn’t seem nervous to me. We started joking around about whether we’d be the crazy parents or if it would be roomie. </p>

<p>Today is laundry day and we’ll begin the big pack. </p>

<p>Love hearing the move in stories. After I’d arranged to have little sis stay at a friends for move in the friends dad rescinded the offer as punishment to his d. I don’t normally speak up or say anything and called dad to find out if he really was backing out last minute on us. He quickly got back to us and re-invited d. I hate to be so pushy but we barely have room for ourselves and we wanted to make this about s. </p>

<p>I’ve already begun stalking our college counselor for advice about my d’s college search. It’ll be nice to just be an observer of this years admissions process.</p>

<p>Love this!! It’s exactly what’s happening at our home. Our youngest of four will be the only one at home once my twins move to college this weekend. We’ve already teased her about expending every extra bit of parental energy on her! Poor little thing…</p>

<p>All this packing stuff is making me nervous. I’m really not thinkingany of my kids packing is going to take so long. What takes so long to pack? Each have a couple of plastic bins, and are planning on throwing most of their clothes in plastic garbage bags. The only thing we are leaving in the box are printers (think they might get broken otherwise). Maybe it’s just because my kids don’t have lots of clothes? Talking with my mom last night, because d and I will be stopping for the night (it’s halfway down) and she was saying we should pack the car the night before. I’m thinking it will take 10-15 min to throw everything in. Is there something wrong with me?</p>

<p>D is starting to get worried, roommate moved in yesterday for a pre-orientation program. She told D she had moved furniture around, and put some pics on fb of her side of the room - it looks pretty low key. But I still think it is psychologically harder to move in when someone else has already been there for a week.</p>

<p>S2 (UNH) logged in yesterday to see that one of the roommates in his triple is no longer there. He never heard from him, so we have no idea if he chickened out, got off a waitlist somewhere else or decided to live at home (he was local). I can’t believe they won’t stuff someone else in there last minute, since I know they were doing forced triples, but it is the chem-free dorm on campus some maybe nobody else wants in?</p>

<p>S1 (RIT) finally heard from his roommate, but there has been no discussion on who is bringing what. I fear it is getting kind of late for that.</p>

<p>D and I are off Wed night. We have dinner plans for Tues night, the only night all three families were free, so we will definitely be down to the wire. Fingers crossed, I love hearing everyone elses move in stories!</p>

<p>For all who have not launched yet, make sure you label everything - student name, dorm name, and room number. D2’s school had volunteers to help with moving, they got students’ stuff mixed up and didn’t know where to deliver to. D2 had everything clearly labeled and everything was delivered to her room before H parked the car.</p>
