<p>Good to see the new thread started, high school is feeling like a long time ago these days. </p>
<p>S has always had 2 pairs of shoes, one pair of sneakers and a pair of soccer shoes. we recently added a pair of dress shoes for prom and a second pair of sneakers. He’s due for another pair of sneakers as he’s worn through his older pair.</p>
<p>No dorm mountain yet, but I remember older D’s large pile in her room before college. I’ll soon turn my attention towards that so S’s mountain will grow.</p>
<p>lillypod, I think shipping to the hotel is a great idea. I’ve shipped to hotels before with no problems, have your H let them know he is expecting packages.</p>
<p>BBB is fine, but Walmart and the Container Store also do the “order online, pick up at any store” thing. </p>
<p>mequonmom, since you are driving to Florida, can’t you shop down there and/or on the way?</p>
<p>I never remember having more then 3-4 pairs of shoes, but d (hs class of '15) now has to have double that. It is kinda scary. Of course s is fine with his one pair of ratty sneakers, at least that means we are not (yet) trying to transport foot ware back and forth from college.</p>

<p>It’s amazing that there’s 6 weeks plus a day between the first and last launch dates corresponding to regular freshman fall session move-in days on the respective campuses. (I’m skipping huxleyalum’s S1 from this comparison because his July launch date corresponds to an accelerated-entry summer program, if I recall correctly).</p>
<p>But wow, freshman move-in dates run the gamut from 8/08 at U of Georgia to 9/20 at Northwestern!</p>
<p>My D loves shoes and lord knows how many pairs she’ll pack, but my S only owns 4. Sneakers, topsiders, dress shoes, boots. He probably wears the dress shoes 5 times a year and the topsiders only when he works at my office. The boots get lots of winter wear at NU. </p>
<p>Why did I think D would want to spend time with us during her last week or so? She’s out with her friends now and since some of them are just now returning from summer trips, we’ll see even less of her. </p>
<p>Weather, I also am amazed at the six week span. My two kids leave at each end of the six weeks. Since my D leaves first, it will be interesting for my S to see, for six weeks anyway, what it was like when he left two years ago. (He already said he will not be able to tolerate my sporadic sobbing…but who knows, maybe I won’t do that this time?? )</p>
<p>Was trying to wait, but adding mequonmom’s D before that message got so far back that it got lost.</p>

<p>My daughter starts Wesleyan 8/29. I am in denial - haven’t done a thing but i guess there are stores in Connecticut.</p>
<p>thank you ohiobassmom. I did not know container store also did the “order online, pick up anywhere” thing. I love container store and turns out there is one en route to Amherst.</p>
<p>We are in the same denial… I don’t want to see my oldest go, but I know it is the right thing.</p>
<p>Hello all -wow!!! College Class of 2016!!! </p>
<p>But just like all times in life -soak in every minute. For those of us who have had sons and daughters thru college already or are attending, you know this time goes very fast.
It’s amazing how fast it goes. DS1 is applying to grad schools this year and I could swear I just dropped him off as a Freshman.</p>
<p>I’m kinda just stare at my DS2 now. He’s starting to get a little peeved. LOL!!! But come on - he’s gone in two weeks.</p>
<p>Our sea shipment has been X-rayed, and now is flagged for special inspection, due to where we moved from. It doesn’t look like our stuff is going to get delivered before D2 goes to college. She will not have a lot of her winter clothes, pictures and records. We will need to bring them up to her later on. It is a good thing we air shipped other more important things for her.</p>
<p>D2 just told us tonight that she is depressed about leaving. She said she doesn’t like to meet new people. D1 is taking time off from work to move her sister in. D1 always makes a point to be there for D2’s. Last time she took time off was for D2’s graduation.</p>
<p>One more for the list- a new school I think. D headed to American University on 8/18. Dorm mountain is enormous and unlikely to all fit in a city school dorm. Will have an empty nest as S is a junior at Swarthmore. Definitely see a difference between boys and girls with shopping for school. Though my S does have lots of shoes I must admit.</p>
<p>Oh Oldfort, that is too bad, but what better excuse to visit her?</p>
<p>Oldfort, my D feels that way too. She will be way more nervous/ uneasy than my son was. I’m now wondering if that is why I’ve been able to hold it together better this time- I think she needs me to. I was pretty weepy when S was leaving, but he “allowed” me to focus on MY feelings because he was confident about leaving.</p>
<p>Oldfort - I sure hope the drugs are well-hidden. :)</p>

<p>Tomorrow evening we’re meeting the mom of D’s roomie while she’s in our town to visit one of her friends. The girl warned my kid that her mom can be overbearing. Gee, I can’t wait.</p>
<p>Long time lurker… I have learned so much from is foum! D1 leaves for Georgetown 8/21 and moves in 8/24. Having her move cross-country is quite daunting. Thank you for all the insight!</p>
<p>Two parents with kids coming to DC! As a DC resident I have to welcome them to this city, it’s a great place to be even just for college. </p>
<p>I think we all just realized we only have one more week to get everything set for S’s send off, due to our annual beech vacation. It’s starting to get stressful, and I think S is starting to look forward a bit more for college!</p>
