I just looked 2, it does have both books required which probably means he could use either but not sure. If you son is going to go on to the next Chem, I would probably buy but ask the textbook lady if they use the same book next semester. . Mine only needs one semester of Chem.

Clicking on the actual items shows me the new book is “required” for all three sections. The old book is “required” for two sections. The Iclicker is only required for my guy’s section.

I give up… I sent an e-mail to my guy asking him to check to see what was needed and let me know. Since he’s acting today, I’ll expect an answer tomorrow. The Iclicker is only $37 if they have a nice used one. It’s only $50 new. He could get that himself, but I wouldn’t want him spending all of his $$ on online access and the clicker. If that’s the case, I’ll order things from here and have them sent there.

Okay, Creek and Lake, don’t take this too personally, but I may need to take a BINGO point away from those of you doing the bookstore book buying detail for your now college-age student. My S would kill me if I tried to help him; how are you getting away with this?

If this is your first kids in college you can keep the point, and if this is your empty nest reaction, you can also keep the point, but otherwise, I deduct a “B” for helicoptering in college.

And you can deduct an “I-N-G-O” from my score for helicoptering you!

I’m so glad the Calc book is the same for a bunch of sections and semesters. I don’t see why all the Chem sections have to be so different.

Sorry 2016 folks for hijacking the thread for this brief book diversion :)

S is my first and only Snowflake. But in my family, I am the main web finder researcher. My son has been doing his laundry alone for the last 4 years. So I cannot get any bingo points there :)

Just interrupting this program to announce:

THEY FINALLY GOT MY CLOCK WORKING!!!

It’s only the end of the second day of school for us… we didn’t actually NEED it the first two days I suppose. (Yes, you’re hearing a slight tinge of sarcasm.)

Hopefully, it will also be working in the morning. I don’t know if I dare hold my breath. They quit working last school year… and only had the rest of that year and all summer to fix them…

I am thankful they appear to be fixed now - as I head to an afterschool meeting.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. ;)

Snowflake… we’re on a strict budget… that’s why I get to do the buying for expensive things. Oldest still has me buying whatever books he doesn’t get from other students. Oldest is a junior this year. With unlimited $$ or not so limited $$ they’d be doing it. However, I find the best deals. I think it has to do with having an XX chromosome rather than XY.

Gotta go to that meeting…

Do I get a prize for already sending the 2nd box of forgotten items a week in?

S bought his books - only spent $145 total. Two of his classes apparently don’t require books - his required writing and his engineering class of all things.

On another note - we got a letter home inviting D to apply for national honors society - does that mean anything to college admissions? S transferred and missed the timelines.

Glad to hear of further communications from kids and smooth launches. Things are slowly improving on the Tulane campus–dorms are still without power (they slept in the hallways, away from the windows), but they will soon be released and able to go to buildings where there is power (rec center, dining hall) to recharge their phones and laptops. My girl sounds fine this morning, at least in a brief text I received (her phone was dying). There is talk of dinner being served in the dining hall this evening too.

My girl only purchased her books on Amazon on Monday–guess she’s somewhat lucky classes will not start until after Labor Day now. I think she’s the only student on campus though who is disappointed about that–she is dying to go to class. She met her Literary Investigations teacher at a reception over the weekend, the head of the English department–and she was sooo jazzed to start. She got to go to one class Monday–two others were cancelled that day. That’s it so far.

Lots of bonding going on in the dorms–here’s some video of a sing-along, my girl isn’t among them, but there were similar doings on her floor:

I’ve been very pleased with the tweeting from Pres. Cowen. He visited each dorm last night, and posted photos.

I’m pretty sure eyemamom gets a BINGO point for S having classes that don’t require books!

S decided at the last minute to take Physics, and I had the textbook already here at home from S’14 taking it last year, and had the clicker too. So I didn’t have to buy it but I DID have to mail it to him. Doesn’t that earn 2 BINGO points -one for mailing a package from home, and one for not having to buy a book for a course? I just made the mistake of reading the rate my prof comments for his prof. Yikes. People think he’s great but really really hard.

Snowflake - I’m pretty sure there’s an exemption from losing points for helicoptering for first timers within a week of launch date. I’ll have to go check the wacka-bylaws…

Yes, agree … wacka-bylaws clearly state that for first-timers, only-children and wacka-helicopter-loons there is an exemption from losing point for helicoptering.

I’ll still take back all the BINGO points I thought I earned since I read the bylaws wrong.

Meanwhile, do I get a “B” back for my S calling me unprompted? I almost fell off my chair 10 minutes ago. He even apologized for not calling earlier because he hadn’t had any downtime. He was walking across campus and briefly told me about his classes and that the girls in college and in his dorm were really nice and I had to hold back from asking any probing questions about homework load and stuff. Since my D didn’t call us for 3 weeks, he really surprised me.

gee, I’m glad the online part of D’s chem book (called smartworks, publisher is norton) is avail for $20 from the publishers website. I cringe at your UR book costs. And D needs an iclicker for physics, and I’ve seen that it is used in other classes also. She bought one from an upperclassman for $20 and will keep at least through the intro classes.

A couple of D’s books have solutions manuals which are recommended not required, I said she could decide if she wants those and she covers that cost.

I must object to book buying earning negative bingo points. Since D knows I am a good shopper (9 years of private school experience behind me) she has initiated lots of contact with me regarding these purchases. Esp for the things she is responsible for buying, where the price is more important to her.

I’m getting stalker points, but I don’t know if I get BINGO points…

My daughter has her course schedule, because it’s posted on her Google calendar. :-)

She got into her first choice elective. Hooray! All other courses are standard for first semester freshman at her school, so the only question on the rest was what time.

First day of classes is tomorrow. They’ll learn about what books they need (if any) in their first class meetings. She won’t actually have had all her first class meetings until Wednesday of next week. I feel like I’m really lagging behind y’all in the book drama.

Snowflake - you get a big sloppy point for S calling on his own initiative! :)

Overall, I’ve always been pleasantly surprised at book costs over the last two years, so I hope that continues! (mental note - stop trying to talk my kids into taking chemistry just because “everyone ought to have a college level chemistry course”)

I’m just sitting back happy…he text and called me today. :)

And what’s this BINGO thing going on? I want in! :)

I keep reading “iclicker” as “ice-licker”. Ew, and wondering what the he** kind of stuff is going ON here??? Ha.

We leave tomorrow for San Diego. Surprise party given by D’s friends was a resounding success and lots of fun. She’s skittish; nervous/excited/sad/anxious-- like a cat.

D2’s Greek classic book is $180. Is that worth any bingo points? What about buying D2’s bus tickets for the fall break? We are already planning her first home visit.

I think you get a “G” for that, oldfort. Greek Classic … I wanna read that.

I have sent off one box with boots left behind (Monday); and mail today. I made him buy books on Saturday before I left campus. Yes, we probably paid too much (got one new book, one rented, and the others used), because I did not want to worry about him getting the right books for the right $$$, bartering with knowledgeable upper classmen. Any Bingo points for me??? :)

Sell it to you after this semester for $90. :)
