Parents of the HS Class of 2013 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

Just wondering about Tulane? S is just in the bottom of 25 to75% range. Are they a little more understanding on grades and scores?

They claim to take a more holistic view of applicants. My son has done a lot of volunteer work (including fundraiser for victims of Katrina, Habitat for Humanity, etc.) and would love to be in New Orleans to do some rebuilding there.

He applied EA so we’ll know by December 15th if not sooner. 25 kids from his HS applied there (NY) and about half usually get in. We’ll see. :)

My son received his acceptance letter from Knox today along with a $12k/y scholarship. When I ran the net price calculator, they “gave” him a $9k award.

Maze… UPS does have a music school and gives music scholarships.

^^^ Thanks

UPS is now on his list, Tulane is also now on his list, Tulane may be a reach but let him try it out

Good luck to everyone waiting for admission notifications. Both of my children graduated from Eckerd College. If anyone needs more info, feel free to contact me.

reeinazz,
Congrats on the acceptance!

Congrats Mamdubbs, sounds like she found the perfect fit already?

There are a couple of threads on merit aid, this is a very good one: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/52133-schools-known-good-merit-aid.html

There’s another one guaranteed merit for certain stats and another for full rides/full tuition merit.

NPRMom- My D mostly applied in the Albany area (our home territory) for class of '11 so if you find out the name of the college- I can probably give you the low down.

Congrats Reeiniz and Heavy! And happy for you too NPR on those first quarter grades. Still nothing here - started doing some trolling around looking to see when applicants heard back from schools she applied to and looks like we may have a while to wait. The one early response school, Ithaca, switched to a more standard schedule this year.

Mazewanderer, D13 just got back from tours at Loyola New Orleans and Tulane. We’re in a similar position in that Tulane is a reach for us, but D loved N.O. Frankly I did a double-take when I saw the stats regarding applications vs. acceptances. It’s a very popular school here on the east coast, although if you’re from the west, that may be attractive to them I wasn’t on the tour, but Loyola-NO supposedly has great music performance spaces and a decided arts bent. D didn’t want to keep it on her list, but her reasons may be different than your son’s. It’s too bad because it’s also much more of a likely for us than Tulane. If you’re considering Tulane you might want to tour Loyola as well, if the catholic thing isn’t a deal breaker. Is there any better music city than New Orleans?

We just got a call from her counselor while at a dental appointment for my D. I started crying in front of her dentist upon hearing the news, which made me of course laugh at the same time. It was a moment I will not forget (and most likely the dentist will also remember us well lol).

I love this school for her! I am so incredibly proud of her right now…

Welcome to beautiful North Carolina, jkiwmom. Congrats to you D.

^^^^ For those who don’t know what it means . . .

Hello! Not a parent but I am a student. I’m curious, what west coast schools give decent merit aid for a guy with a 3.3 and a 26 act? Ups calculator barely gave 6000…

Oh, jkiwmom, I"m so happy for you and your D! I followed your tour of schools - some the same as ones on the list for my D, and I remember how much your D loved WW! Hooray!!!

Jkiwmom and jkiwdaughter: Fantastic news! So happy for you! Love this thread for celebrating successes like yours!

Congrats to your D jkiwmom :)

Jkiwmom, congratulations to you and your D! Awesome news, and I bet the dentist thought it was pretty awesome, too!

Jkiwmom - Congrats!
