YES! Congratulations, Cbreeze and DD!!! That’s wonderful news.

Hey cbreeze–I was about to bump this thread myself. DS got a big envelope from Susquehanna today but I will let him open it.

I would love more info on this school. It has a thread but it’s pretty quiet. I also learned about it here. I feel like I’ve gotten to know a number of the OH schools but for some reason we’ve tended to skip over the PA schools.

Glad the news is creeping back out after the lull of the holidays. Best wishes to all still waiting.

D is in at DePaul …

Congratulations to all! Nice to have some good news posts on here again. I went to school near Susquehanna back in the dark ages-- I knew students who went there and really liked it, but don’t know what it is like now

We are still waiting on one EA decision-- it was supposed to be here before Christmas but nothing yet. Maybe this week. DS has one more to send off RD due the 10th-- not sure how motivated he is right now, so likely not his best effort, but I guess he will go ahead and submit

Congrats to your kids cbreeze, MyLB, and mammaduck.

S decided to just forget about Wooster. It’s unlikely he would have choosen to attend there over some other schools he’s already been accepted at. I understand and support his decision but I really liked the school for the financial aid. I hope it doesn’t bite us in the butt.

Congrats everyone!
We are waiting on one more school, too. We should hear this month. I’m happy that our thread is back in action. I’ve been checking daily during the lull…

@HeavyLidded, I’m so sorry that you are losing sleep over the FA concerns right now. She is in with good dough at OWU, correct? I hear such excellent things about that school, and have you read the newest CTCL chapter on it? Order it on amazon today for overnight delivery if you must, because you won’t lose another night’s sleep after you’ve read their glowing endorsement of the place.

Congrats to everyone on the latest news! My son is happily sitting on 10 acceptances, some with dough, and two deferrals. (Applied EA everywhere). I would never have guessed this is how it would turn out for him.

Hooray for all our kids’ success! Thanks for all the support here via this thread.

I have a good friend who’s son is a Sophomore at Susquehanna. He just started his semester abroad in Barcelona, called a “Study Away”. This page shows some bloggers [Susquehanna University - Study-Away Bloggers](http://www.susqu.edu/academics/32136.asp) He’s been very happy there and the college was extremely supportive when he had a family emergency freshman year.

Congratulations on the latest acceptances! DS received another today - Adelphi, but no $. He’s got 4 acceptances and 1 deferral so far. We should hear from another 3 or 4 within the next few weeks, then a few in March/April. Still the long wait for DD.

Congrats on the latest acceptances! MyLB - I loved Susquehanna. My d was planning to apply but received ED acceptance before she did. I did report on my visit there in the fall (I think the post is #867 - I just looked it up for you and in the amount of time it took to write above sentences can’t remember for sure! I’m going to blame that on only one cup of coffee.) I thought it was a great option for my D and I liked everything about it. I remember in doing some follow up research that many freshmen reported classes were more challenging than they anticpated, which I thought was a good thing. Happy to answer any questions - that is, if I can remember enough…lol.

Joisymom–just gave you some love for having an amazing memory! Because there are several of us here with recent Susquehanna acceptances, I went and copied joisymom’s report:

The reality is I’m afraid this school will fall a bit if the visits we’re finally getting around to in early Feb go well. At least in my mind, I’m doing a bit of sorting–School A is similar to School B, so which of those does DS prefer–and so on. Still waiting on quite a few but at a minimum I can put them in LACs vs. larger publics, plus closer and farther. This is the part of the process where the kiddo and I try to figure out a decision process. Still very thankful he has a decision to make!

DS received his acceptance last night from Western Washington University (OOS), which was on his list of “real” safeties that met his criteria: geology program, Pacific Northwest, not too big/not too small.

Ohio Wesleyan offered $20K but is in an area with which we have no experience - he’s open to it, just not enthusiastic without a visit (and then there’s the dreaded snow factor, hah!)

This has been something of a moving target: early acceptances to University of Arkansas and Colorado State are now way down the list; too big. He’s decided if he’s going that large then it’s Oregon State for him.

He does seem fully recovered from the sting of the Colorado College rejection. I think it helps when he sees the stats of others who have been deferred/rejected. In retrospect, no surprise that his 3.34 was used to manage the huge numbers of applications they’re seeing this year. (Now wasn’t that a nice, reasonable way to avoid saying how much I hate how they hurt my child? No egging!)

Only 5-6 weeks to hear from his EDII school, but he’s got some apps left with 1/15 and 2/1 deadlines and he is not enthusiastic. The WWU safety lets me relax some. Not an LAC which we both want for him, but still manageable (I hope)

congrats to all on the recent acceptances!

@onesonmom, Western Washington is a really great fit for you son and I am so happy to hear this news! Congrats to him! Not sure what state you live, but wanted to mention that it’s also one of the Western Exchange program schools (instate tuition rates for some neighboring states).

Great to hear updates! My DD is getting over her rejection from Wooster pretty well…finding lots of things about Beloit that suddently appeal to her, and even said she thinks she could “be herself more” there, as she is a pretty unconvential kid…strangely she may have not given Beloit her full attention from the start because she was so sure she would be at Wooster. Now that she is in at Beloit and feels wanted, she sees it differently :)

Went back and read some more old posts from this thread and someone had written that we really need to cast a wide net for our B kids who are also looking for $$…because we just can’t predict how schools will weigh the various factors. That is really awesome advice and something I will definitely do for kid #2 in a couple of years.

We ruled out Susquehanna very early on (didn’t visit, didn’t apply) and for the life of me I can’t figure out why. Another one that might have been a good fit, a sure acceptance, and some $$. DD#2 will certainly give it a look.

We are down to waiting on only one (Lawrence U. in Wisconsin) which we should know about next week…will be ok if it’s a no. It would definitely be in the running if she got in and got $$, but do not have hopes up at all.

Thanks, jkiwmom, but we’re in Texas so we’re just OOS.

Next summer I am selling my home so that I can move 150 miles away to be closer to my 79 year old mother (worsening health problems) and job (family business; have been able to work from home some days and commute others, but my mother’s impending retirement - finally! - will require me to be in the office daily)

The point of all that is my plan to take this opportunity to downsize after DS/only child leaves for college. Which could mean an apartment or rental, with some money from the house sale available to buy a home in whatever state he attends college in - I have always planned to retire in Oregon near my best friend, but Washington would work as well!

DS and I will both undergo major transitions at about the same time. I’m hoping this will help distract me from missing him so much!

Mdnhmass - are you planning on going to one of Beloit’s admitted student weekends? My son is signed up for the one in March. He likes Beloit but I’m hoping a visit will make him love Beloit.

My son was accepted to Ithaca but didn’t get any money. It’s completely unaffordable according to their NPC. gapped $39k

Yes, we’ve been debating which one but are probably going in March. Fingers crossed she comes away feeling like it’s the place for her. I will be going with her in hopes of meeting with disability services folks to see what kind of place it will be for a GT/LD kid.

Wow, this thread dropped to page 3! Congratulations on the Susquehanna, WWU, DePaul and Adelphi! (and anyone else I missed!) Some great schools on here!
Susquehanna - visited with D a few years ago - really nice kids, beautiful campus (just felt like “college” to me) and a cute town. I’ve heard parents on here rave about their kids’ experiences there. Adelphi - several of D’s teammates are attending/will attend next year. They all have very good things to say. DePaul - another campus that I liked! A little far for us though. and WWU - love the location!

So, who is waiting to hear?

Several of the folks on this thread may be able to relate to this …
S is in at the Univ. of Missouri journalism school - so after years of stressing over his academic performance (or lack thereof) I was feeling pretty good - actually relaxed. I thought all was well with S and he had finally gotten his act together re: doing his homework, turning it in, studying, and getting rewarded by receiving decent grades.
Then yesterday I got the dreaded window envelope with the dreaded address of “Parents or Guardians of S”. The only time I get those is when quarter or semester grades come out (and we have finals next week, so that wouldn’t be it) or when a grade or grades are at a “D” or below. I had received a number of these over the course of S’s high school years, but none for the last year; I thought we were past that, but the bad memories came flooding back. S wasn’t home - I was picking him up after some after-school EC’s - and I decided to let him open the envelope and then explain what in the world was going on. Picked him up, told him the envelope was on the counter, and he said it couldn’t possibly be his grades - they were fine. Yeah right, I thought. Handed him the envelope, tapping my toe, and he handed the paper to me and said…“Do you want to see my next semester schedule?” Whoops. Must stop myself from overreacting - and put the past behind and enjoy the present!

cooker-Glad it was good news. It is awful how we immediately jump to conclusions!
