Cooker, I so relate to your story (from a few pages back…). I watch this thread but don’t post in it too often, but now that D13 seems to be pretty well set, S14 is getting my attention. He seems to be the poster child for this thread.
Anyway I just wanted to congratulate so many of you, there are some great schools here! Also, I wanted to thank you for all I’m learning while lurking.
Hope there is more good news this week!

89Wahoo- maybe we should start the S14 page! That’s really who I’m doing this for.

Like I said, he sees himself as engineering but I don’t think he’ll succeed in those math and science classes but he has been sure of whatever path he is on for a long time and won’t listen to parental reasoning. I’m sure he’ll have first semester shock…or he could decide it’s time to buckle down and put the pedal to the metal!

Well we’ll see if there are any $$ included but I’d really like to take him out to visit Wooster and OWU. I’m kind of excited about some college visit trips the next few months! I always enjoyed them.

MyLB, how expensive is Wooster OOS (I can look this up, I know…). I think it could be great for S14 but OOS with three in college is not at the top of my list of great ideas, and I find it doubtful they want to donate money… but I’m off to find out since you and others keep being in love with it. My parents wanted my brother to attend… he wanted a big state school. In the end they all lost, because the big school was not the best place for him. Too bad there was no CC to set them straight, talk about fit, etc. :)

Wooster OOS is going to be the same price as Wooster in state - It’s a private college. ;)

The majority of kids going there get pretty darn good merit aid. [College Navigator - The College of Wooster](<a href=“College Navigator - The College of Wooster”>College Navigator - The College of Wooster) Yay for MyLB!

Congrats on W oost er and ith a ca!

Re $ at COW, they do give some good scholarships, and with 3 in college, you’re bound to get some FA. OWU is a little less overall, with good merit aid.

Congrats, MyLB! Awesome news!!

It was kind of fun finding two big envelopes in the mail. It had been quite a while since we had any news. The CTCL book has good info on both OWU and Wooster. In my experience, merit aid has been better from OWU. Sorry but I’m on my phone and can’t see the posts I just read + can’t remember the details cuz I’m so old. I’ve visited both with two different kids so might be able to provide more info when I’m back on a computer.

Congrats, MyLB and your kid!

Congrats to MyLB!! My D was accepted to O W U and W O O S T E R. They are pretty generous with scholarships too. Glad you got some big envelopes. HAPPY DAY!!

Thanks vandygrad and others. Just spread some puff love. Now I need to get serious about scheduling some visits!

Congrats, myLB!!!

Big day yesterday as S13 got two acceptances in the mail: Towson U. (MD) and Christopher Newport U. (VA).

He’s 6-for-6 in acceptances/applications.

I’m loving all the good news!

Great news! Congrats to everyone with recent acceptances! I hope the trend continues

DH finishing up CSS profile and FAFSA this week. (I hope) All of DS applications are in so now just waiting for the last few decisions.

I guess we should be thinking about visits too-- there are a few that DS hasn’t visited at all where he now is accepted.

Yay MyLB!!! Yay! :)

gunnerz–so happy for you! six for six is awesome! :)

Congrats on all the acceptances! I’m impressed with these kids (and their parents ) for getting into such great schools. And with $ to boot!

Gunners, yay!! CNU is on our radar for S14. he loves JMU but we are looking to add some schools. Hopefully, they will be in VA (529 plan) though I probably won’t get that lucky. I usually just lurk but wanted to congratulate you. 6 for 6 is sweet!!

idahomom and everyone else with sons filling out the FAFSA,
Was it surprising to you that we are required to register with the select service in order to qualify for any federal aid? DH says it doesn’t matter, but it was unsettling to me to think that I’m trading requests for financial aid for my son’s contact information for military uses. I just don’t like it!

Congrats on the recent acceptances and financial awards!
