@helena lol I was one of them, pretty disheartening but there’s still a chance since they just dump the deferrals into the rd round. If not then oh well, I couldn’t affordham anyway.

crowlady—sorry I missed your question from a couple of days ago. I don’t know the answer to your question. I know that every HS GC should send a school profile along with the GC LOR submission, but I don’t know if they all do that. Our school’s profile provides a great deal of info that would allow an Ad Com to see where a student falls in the class, how much grade inflation there is, mean SAT, ACT and SAT II scores, AP score distribution by subject, AP & Honors classes offered, etc.

I just read this post on the UVa blog. (I have no idea why I am following this as my son will not be applying to Virginia, but I like reading the info.)

CT1417: that’s an interesting data-filled post from UVA. I don’t really think my S’s gpa has much to do with the school and its policies. But I was curious how colleges might interpret his grades.

We’re less than 24 hours from #1 choice ED notification and I’m bracing myself for bad news. Still a little hopeful but trying to be realistic. Also hoping that we hear from my S’s safety before we leave for vacation. They don’t offer a way to check online so we have to check for snail mail.

Morning All

Still awaiting choice #1s release of admits…it’s going to make/break the holiday.

I don’t know if the school does it online as well as snail mail

So far every school has sent a large envelope with the admissions letter and the fin aid info (merit). I do know the #1 choice will come in a Colored envelope of the school colors…

IF it arrives before the holiday–do I save it and put it under the tree???

Thoughts?

^^ Too funny! I’d rip it open ASAP! Best of luck!! So far my D is 5 for 5 in acceptances. Still waiting for one more, but even if she does get in it’s highly doubtful she’ll go there, since this school is known for giving low merit aid unless you are +33 ACT and 4.0+ GPA.

fogfog, I was contemplating something similar. D2 is waiting for the big envelope in school colors. Earliest day it could’ve arrived would’ve been on Saturday, which was also the day that D1 returned from study abroad. I really didn’t want D1’s return overshadowed by big admissions news, good or bad. The spouse and I decided that we’d beat her to the mailbox–if it was a white envelope, it would stay in the mailbox until Monday. If it was colored, we’d snatch it out and have her discover it on Sunday, wrapped in the comics. But that was only a short delay of game. Maybe you can talk to D2 about how Christmas needs to be Christmas regardless of the outcome?

And the big orange envelope arrived–D2 will be going to Pitzer!

DS accepted to his ED school today - such a relief that it is over! Thanks to everyone on this board. I don’t post much but I read it every day - not sure what I’m going to do now :)

Good luck to all!!!

Congrats on everyone’s news today!

As one parent recently posted…your kid is the same at 5:01 as he/she was at 4:59…before the “decision”…and does not need a school to be validated.

:)

Congrat’s ST and Tracy!!! Isn’t it the greatest feeling! ST… Pitzer is close to me… what a GREAT school. I LOVE that whole scene there. So much variety with all 5 colleges to hang out in. She is going to have a wonderful 4 years. Did you see the pool at Pitzer with all the dorms with half doors that can open up to it? I also loved the cool environmental ECO vibe to their landscaping.

My S got in ED to Kenyon on Saturday… definitely a long shot… but he put together a tremendously convincing app, and wrote a heck of an essay, so YAY… it’s over in my house for good… last one out:)))

Glad to read all the good news.

As far as saving big envelopes – I wouldn’t torture my kid one extra second waiting for good news. Maybe you could order a sweatshirt from the college and have that under the tree? But I’d share the good news right away.

Congrats to more with good news for Christmas!

And thanks for the sweatshirt under the tree suggestion… it seems so obvious, but I hadn’t thought about it. Gettin’ old…

Creekland—and a car sticker!

^^^ Good idea!

Hi everyone, I just found this thread and I wish I’d found it months ago! My DD has about a 3.2 weighted with progress over her hs years. She goes to a small, high-achieving public hs where her 3.2 has her in the bottom half of the class! She had in the low 1900’s on her SAT’s, but that is because she did extraordinarily well on the writing, which many schools don’t consider. Her combined CR and math is high 1100’s. She was deferred from her ED school, which was a reach, and an EA school which was also somewhat of a reach but her sister goes there. So pins and needles now. It was hard on her to watch her classmates get accepted ED (or EA) to various Ivies and the like when she got deferred ED from a school that is a safety for them.

Now she has to get motivated to finish the rest of her applications. She already submitted to 2 EA schools and one that has rolling, but not to the schools that are regular (4/1) decisions.

Congrats to everyone accepted! Hope we will join your ranks soon.

Best wishes to you and your D Tracy… In the end, it’s helpful to know that the majority of kids end up liking where they go. Hopefully she can still find a good fit place (or two) to apply to. Does her GC have suggestions? Is she willing to travel a bit away from home to provide geographical diversity?

Nova Southeastern (FL) is one we visited and liked where your D’s stats appear like they would fit in nicely.

Got the rejection from S’s reach ED school. Shakes your confidence but trying to bounce back and get a bunch of new essays written for 1/1 and 1/15 deadlines.

Does anybody know if high schools typically send transcripts for RD through junior year or through first quarter senior year? If the latter, we’ll have to do some explaining for why things aren’t going well.

^^ for RD schools will want to see senior grades and if not initially sent, will ask for a mid-year report

Thanks Creekland! Happy to report that she got into UVM yesterday EA! She may or may not attend, but she likes the school, it was a relief to have an acceptance and her mantra yesterday was “I’m going to college!”

Awesome, Tracy!

Crowlady - does your GC have suggestions of places to consider? Sorry to hear of the rejection… and best wishes for the new apps.
