<p>I have a S going through HS this time around and this is exactly the stuff I will miss:)</p>
<p>Younger S started HS Friday (yes, Friday, is that messed up or what?) Anyway, he wore a polo shirt, khaki cargo shorts and his Nike sneakers - pretty much what he wears every day. He told me yesterday that he likes all his classes before lunch, but doesnāt like any after - business computers, algebra and Spanish.</p>
<p>Younger son started school today. Heās on block scheduling. He thought his Algebra II teacher was a scream. Loved his earth science and biology teachers. And despite having 29 kids in his honors English class, it really did not feel all that crowded, he said. Then, he went off to run five miles with the cross country team before coming home, swallowing dinner and doing homework. All in all, not a bad start. If only the other 179 days are that good ā¦</p>

Well kiddo2 liked all of the teachers- though has a hard time remembering the schedule right nowā¦
Tests this week on summer reading. Lets hope we start off on the right foot.</p>

<p>Me threeā¦an '11 and a '14 (and a rebounded '09).</p>
<p>Joining the club - got an '11 and a '14. But, the '11 is essentially done with the college search, so not a difficult year, at least in that respect.</p>
<p>Yet another. D2 is already talking about how much she is going to miss D1.</p>
<p>Son 2 complained the other night when Son 1 (Class of '09) skyped at his bedtime. School started the next morning. He said his brother was too loud on skype.</p>
<p>So much for missing him.</p>
<p>I have an '11 and a '14. They are both homeschooled but with quite a lot of activities outside of home. DDā14 is 13 and wonāt be '14 until Dec. Her outside activities so far will be Speech, Soccer and Band. We started school slowly this week. It will all be back to normal speed Labor Day week when co-op starts again.</p>
<p>By the way, CarmenandCo, I think I recognize you from another board.</p>
<p>School has been in session for a week here. 2014 son is settled into his classes. Now Iād just like to see him get involved in some other activities besides cross country team. Is anyone else encouraging their kids to find some clubs or academic teams to try? Any suggestions for how to encourage that? (Or how to find opportunities?)</p>

Although school doesnāt start here until the 7th, Iām also trying to encourage S '14 to try different clubs. He wants to join the auto club (which I am quite happy about - he only participated in 1 club for half year in middle school). </p>
<p>If your sonās school has a website it might have a list of clubs with descriptions. If not, the guidance office may have a list of opportunities.</p>
<p>My D has the opposite issueā¦sheās on school and private cheer, and in school and church choir. Thereās a lot more that sheād like to be involved in, but I think sheās over-committed already.</p>
<p>^^This is mine. I want her to SLOW DOWN. This fall? Marching band and diving at school. Fencing club, piano lessons, church youth group out of school. Thereāll be a change in school activities for the winter season to cheerleading and jazz band, but I donāt expect much of a slow down. Oh, and sheās adding a job.</p>
<p>Iāve said for years that if mine could just quit school and do ECs, she wouldā¦thereās so many things sheās always wanted to try but hasnāt had timeā¦theatre, competitive rock climbing, etc etc.</p>
<p>Our kiddo has a sportā6 days a weekā¦4-6;30 weekdays and Sat amā s (after a school day of 8-4)</p>
<p>so except for Sat afternooons (when not competing/traveling) and Sunday afternoons after churchākiddo2 has only evenings and weekend afternoons for homework, chores, errands etc.</p>
<p>How on earth do kids do so many activities ? Are they one day a week kind of clubs?</p>
<p>S14 already had first h.s. dance. First h.s. football game (spectator, not playing) in tomorrow night! Making new friends everyday. he has a sport, but is looking around for some other ECs.</p>

<p>Iām glad to be joining this group early. I didnāt join the '11 thread until my son was a late jr. It has been so wonderful and supportive. The NYTimes can snark at us all they want. If they had kids, theyād be here too (or wish they were). Ooohhh! Maybe they ARE here and thatās why they are always quoting CC!! Iām such a trouble maker!! :)</p>

Dont even get me started about how our school does not allow the students/parents access to Naviance yet use our kids data for it!!!</p>
<p>Seems as if the girls have no trouble getting involved, but the boys do. S is not athletic so for him the sports teams are out. Clubs meet during school and they pretty much all do at least one club. I am still looking for some other activity for him. I am trying to talk him into going to the football games (first one is next Friday). He was very social in elementary school, but that all changed in middle school. Any suggestions are welcome.</p>
