Parents of the HS Class of 2016 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

Same here, for both kids, though at least D has one rolling acceptance in. Of course, depending on how her grades look in a couple of weeks, that may be her only acceptance. Either senioritis or paralysis has set in. Could be either.

Checked on D16’s first choice school application to ensure that all the supplementals (ie. transcript, ACT/SAT scores, teacher recs and supplemental essays) had been received late Sunday night (Dec 1 was app deadline). This particular school did not provide a portal or send any emails that indicated anything other than the actual (non common app) application has been received, which seemed weird to us.

Got an email Monday morning from the Associate Dean of Admission that the application was entirely complete and was in the final stages of review and that D16 would be hearing from them “within the week”. Oh my goodness, the wait is killing me (can only imagine what D16 is feeling) Not sure if this school sends out an email or only snail mail for acceptances. (Posted in the school forum asking but haven’t heard anything)

So now I am imagining worse case scenarios.

The schools without portals are so annoying. We had a snafu with the SAT AND ACT scores being sent to various colleges and D is trying to find out if a couple of specific schools got the scores that the testing companies say are sent. With no portal you have to call or email and ask, and responses are not always, shall we say, timely.

I would think a portal system would take some of the workload off of the admissions office. I have to admit the school that seem to be “behind” technology wise get a blackmark on my checklist but it doesn’t seem to bother D16., lol.

What we are finding is that the school websites show the SAT scores were received, but no mention of ACT scores. My son emailed the schools. They said the application is complete. His ACT score was better. Maybe they only list SAT, even though they use the ACT. Frustrating.

D16 just received acceptance #7. This one to Duquesne Univiersity’s direct entry BS/DPT program. It is her top choice for the BS/DPT program she applied to. This one elicited some tears from her,

Came with some good merit aid. So far all the schools are in the same ball park $$$ (except Ohio U which will be unbeatable because they matched our in-state tuition.

Waiting on 5 more (I think). Should have all answers by Feb 1. Need to get in some campus visits and then she will be faced with making the decision on which one to choose.

Congrats to your D, @labegg! You (and others) may want to add them to the list of acceptances http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1836696-class-of-2020-list-of-acceptances-h-s-class-of-2016.html#latest

Volunteer of course, but there’s already a few schools with multiple admits; someone else has an acceptance to Duquesne. I’m getting ready to add a ~By Schools~ section.

Congrats to your daughter @labegg

Hurray, @labegg! Congrats!

Congrats @labegg

Congratulations to your D, @labegg !

@labegg Congrats!!! It is wonderful to be accepted to #1 choice.

Congratulations, @labegg !!

Thank you everyone.

I haven’t posted much here since the early days of the thread (son’s GPA has moved up), but y’all are still the group I identify with. I wanted to report that S has been accepted to all 4 of the schools he applied to - Pitt, University of Alabama in Huntsville, George Mason, and RIT!

Congrats @mamaduck . My son’s GPA has always been higher than this thread, but we have a lot more in common with members of this thread.

@mamduck - Congrat! That will be a hard list to choose from!

If our acceptance rates on this thread say anything it is that “B” students are pretty desirable by some pretty competitive schools! I hope that future year parents of “B” students take the time to read this thread and recognize that there is hope.

I know that I rode my D16 pretty hard for the past 4 years thinking that her stats just weren’t good enough.

@BeeDAre So which school is at the top of this list for your D now…Ohio, Ball or Carbondale

Congrats, @mamaduck! And to you too @labegg , looks like we’re both considering Drexel. My S is now 3 for 3 and I’m glad we aren’t in that rat race for the sub-10% acceptance schools. Still have to figure out if we are willing to pay the price for the best one so far, which is not offering merit money (considering he has the lowest UW gpa of any of the admits reported so far, I’m not surprised).

@mamaduck My S14 is at RIT and still loving it after three semesters. Now he has to find the dreaded co-op, though, and he’s stressed about that.
