Oh my @palm715 hope she is getting better real soon!
Hoping all the sick kiddos recover soon! Itās that time of year.
@readingclaygirl congrats on the grades. Always a good sign that one is in the right place.
@HappyFace2018 your D just jumps from one adventure to the next, doesnāt she?
Thank you @sseamom
@sseamom When she applied to GW, the admissions officer noted the strength and depth of her resume. Sheās continuing that trend by applying her time to activities sheās truly passionate about. She chose GW for all that it offers which includes her choice of sorority, the internship opportunities, a politically active student body and theater/music/instrumental opportunities. As I said she is in her element. Once she met with her University Honors Program advisor and plotted her four year plan (which allows her to double major, double concentrate in one of those areas and study abroad) she built her extra curricular activities around that schedule. When she was in high school I constantly worried about whether or not she was spreading herself too thin. When I saw she was enjoying her schedule, getting enough rest and keeping her grades up I backed off. Itās all good. When she tells me she is studying at the Library of Congress one day, heading to the Iranian Embassy for a class visit and seeing a Seth Meyers show the next dayā¦Iām a little jealous LOL! :))
D.C. is the perfect college town, in my estimation. Next to Boston. Next to.S.F.
Any would do.
(Ah, to be young again. Eh, @HappyFace2018?!)
As someone who grew up in a major city, I personally wouldnāt choose to go to school in one. Thank goodness there are thousands to choose from , and I donāt have to choose anymore .
Lost the election for class president. Everything happens for a reason
Sorry @readingclaygirl
Itās ok @carolinamom2boys Thanks.
I went to college in Boston and loved it. S16 wanted to be in a city too and ended up in Pittsburgh. We had never been there before our 1st college visit and we were surprised by how much we loved it there too. It reminds me of Boston 20+ years ago.
Heading to meet @2filles . So excited to meet CC friends .
While I used gap year, college exchange, study abroad, winter interim, and internship semesters to live all over and try out different schools, I expect my little D16 to stay put on her quiet suburban campus an hour away from home. She also will never eat eggplantā¦or a bite of the huge batch ratatouille I made this week. Sheās been training me for years to understand that she is not me.
@livinginLA , Iām so sorry.
So, has your DC16 picked a Halloween costume? Mine is considering her options.
D is planning on going as Donald Trump.
I have one! @dyiu13 Iām going to be Raggedy Ann for our Halloween mixer with another local college.
I havenāt heard anything about a costume or a party, but D has a Halloween outfit-orange leggings with jack-o-lanterns on them, orange socks, and a jack-o-lantern tee shirt. She and her roommate decorated their door with all sorts of Halloween decor, and have a little pumpkin candy caddy that theyāre going to fill with candy for their floor mates.
DDās dorm or maybe just the floor has a halloween āthemeā they are all going as superheroes and she picked Mrs. Incredible:-)
Had a wonderful time in NY visiting DS for parents weekend! Heās happy and healthy, which are the big 2 for me. Got a text when I got home ā his first grade from a college assignment was a B+ on an English essay (his toughest class in HS). The best part was his comment: āItās good, but I think I can do better.ā Yes!
Heāll be meeting up with his sister for thanksgiving, so I wonāt get to see him until winter break. Now if I can just convince him to do FaceTimeā¦
Havenāt had a chance to catch up recently.
@palm715 Hope your D feels better soon.
@livinginLA -Iām sorry things have been challenging lately and Iām also sorry about your cat.
We still get very little info from S. However, he did text last weekend when he was in the front row of the MSNBC broadcast prior to the debate on his campus. He sent a selfie then texted that he was on TV (his one second of fame. LOL). Of course, we were in NYC following a wedding in NJ so we did not see him on TV. By the time we found a place with a TV and had MSNBC on, he had left the area for dinner. But his campus was hopping last weekend so Iām glad he was in the middle of it. Lots of interesting posts on the WashU FB page - including pictures of the Chancellor riding the Clydesdale horses. I keep forgetting to ask S if he saw that.
This weekend is a 4 day break on campus but when I asked S back in the summer if heād want to come home, he said no so I never bought him a plane ticket. Not clear if he wishes he had come home because he mentioned the last time we spoke that heād heard from his HS friends and they were all home this weekend for their break. We will see him in 10 days for parents weekend and I am ready! My D was home last weekend for the wedding so it was great to spend time with her.
I hope everyone and their DC are doing well. I really canāt believe we are more than halfway through October and it has been almost 2 months since I saw my S. My DH and I are still getting used to our empty nest. Definitely a transition that takes some time.
