Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Congrats to @psychmomma 's S and @sseamom 's D!!! @sseamom 4 hours is a LONG time! I feel as happy for your D as I would for one of my friends- is that weird?

Merry Christmas to all the 2016 families! Enjoy having your DC at home but do not totally forget that they are students. You will need to get that tuition, etc paid by 12/31 if you want the expenses for your 2016 tax return.

@Cheeringsection Thanks for the reminder. Ours was due Dec 15.

Yep, paid our bill last week. Room and a $96 lab fee, minus the state grant.

I figure we can get about $900 in AOTC for 2016, between qualified fees and book expenses.

Our spring semester bill isn’t posted yet so I can’t pay now. Doubt it will be up until second week of January.

You may be able to pay based upon estimated amount and get very close to actual, but no need to rush if not part of your tax planning. I want those funds gone for FASFA purposes as well, but mainly because January is very busy for me and I get all I can done in December out of habit.

Merry Merry good parents of 2016!

Our D16 is taking some online classes over winter term to get ahead, so she may be holed up in her room a lot, then out with friends during her spare time.

Our D13 is leaving for South America (summer!!!) on Tuesday for a class over winter term. She gets home the day before she needs to head back to school, so we get her for only a very short time. We are planning a post-graduation Mother-Daughter vacation in May.

Excellent point about paying the tuition this year. I’ll have to get on that

Oh FAFSA that has to get done soon. Maybe it won’t be as bad this year.

Happy holidays to all.

Happy Holidays!

@readingclaygirl, the FAFSA should not take long, it uses the 2015 tax return again. And assets as of the day you file.

Trust y’all have had some very Happy Holidays. I paid D16’s spring tuition bill today. It sure is going by fast!

Happy belated Christmas and Yule, and continuing days of Chanukah!

Just cruising through to catch up. Congratulations to everyone who did well, condolences to anyone who discovered fall semester was more of a challenge than anticipated.
And (going back a couple of pages) I was one of the “no hat” folk wandering campus (because big curly hair-- occasionally, in really horrible weather, the hood might go up, but it was the only thing that fit and didn’t leave my hair squashed. Priorities!).
D16 is still waiting to leave for basic, no change there. She’s just kind of chilling and generally pleasant to be around, and I’m kind of enjoying having 1:1 time, which is difficult with multiples.
S16 is on his way out to catch the bus to his bowl game. He finished first semester with a 3.97 and missed President’s List by one A-, but he made Dean’s List so it’s all good. Aaand
all that effort in high school paid off, finally, as he is now officially a junior. He won’t graduate any earlier, but it gives him latitude to carry two majors and do his study abroad thing. So it’s nice for him to see tangible proof that working hard does afford certain benefits. Hooray for life lessons.
Spring tuition is posted, but not yet paid. Waiting for the fin aid disbursement. FAFSA was done back in October, thank God.

@petrichor11 is it the pinstripe bowl? Pitt is playing Northwestern.

Congrats on great first semesters. Very proud of my D too. Especially her A in Ochem.

We had a nice Christmas, but I felt a bit under the weather for a day or two, and S has been complaining of a sore throat.

Hope you and S feel better soon @mommdc!

DS, too, missed President’s List by ONE (-)!!! But we were so thrilled we didn’t care. He had an early Christmas present with his Calc 2 grade which was one bump higher than expected.

Considering that we were looking at a possible withdrawal in October this was the comeback of the year. DS got sicker than I have seen him in many years. It was awful. But he battled back. Very thankful.

When do your kiddos go back? D reminded me this morning that she leaves Tuesday. Tomorrow is her last day at work (only half a day). Boy, it went by fast! She and her roommate and other friends are already planning what they’ll do when they see each other again, and she’s been talking non-stop with this boy who FINALLY asked her out to the movies upon their return. Classes start on Wednesday-D has 3 or even 4 that day-right now has nothing on either Mondays or Fridays, but needs to change one after they moved the time and now it conflicts with another class. Packing hasn’t started yet, but there are several piles in several places.

Classes start 1/9. Waiting to hear when she wants to return. There are rumors of visiting relatives before classes start but she has yet to call said relatives to see if and when they would be available.

We still have loads of time together. School starts again Jan. 17th. S has been having fun hanging out with his high school friends, and mostly, his siblings. D already went back, but oldest S is here until Jan. 3rd. Everyone was here for Christmas, and we will visit with relatives again on New Year’s Day, and the day after. We saw Rogue One last night, and will probably have another outing or two. It’s so easy to get used to having the kids home again. It will be too quiet when they all leave.
