FIL died yesterday. Coordinating getting the kids home was a little tricky but seems set now. I feel so horrible for my kids as this is the first close death they’ve experienced. At least it isn’t in the middle of finals week which starts next week, but I’m still a bit concerned about how the end of semester will play out.
@mstomper that is really great news! I know you are breathing again now, right?
@psychmomma, oh, that’s so difficult anytime, but especially in the midst of end of semester pressure. Hugs to your kiddos.
@psychmomma So sorry for your loss.
Oh my, so sorry to hear of your loss!
@psychmomma comfort to you & your family.
Thanks, all. I’m driving down to pick them up tomorrow. I’ll be glad to gauge in person how they are doing. Judging by the abundance of texts, my D is pretty emotional. But even S, who rarely texts, has been texting a few times a day. I can’t wait to hug them and get them home!
Oh, and did I mention I haven’t bought a single gift for anyone yet? Yep. Still unable to conjure up any good ideas. (Well, I guess I bought myself $1500 in car repairs today, if that counts.)
Good luck on finals to all our kiddos!
Hugs to you and your family @psychmomma. Have a safe drive.
Sons poster session went great this week. Next week, two finals and another poster session. Then,…home for the holidays
I can’t wait to see DD. She is home on Dec17th. Haven’t seen her since August.
@psychmomma I’m sorry for your loss.
Thank you. It was helpful to have the kids home for a few days, but there is nothing more heartbreaking than watching your kids, in tears, consoling each other. S will return home next Tuesday for winter break! He doesn’t need to take a couple of his finals, so will be home earlier than I expected!
I’m looking forward to having both kids home for the holiday. D1 is loving her job and new life in a new city. D2 (2016) seems to be enjoying her second year at school more than freshman year. She likes living off campus, and she seems to have fallen in with a good group of friends.
As parents, our nerves are healing and we are branching out into a new stage of our lives. So grateful!
All I have to say right now is Roll Tide!!! Way to go Alabama!
D14 has been home for over a week. D16 arrives Monday. She’s packing her dorm room and driving home with all her stuff since she’s studying abroad in the spring. It just dawned on me that she AND ALL HER STUFF arrive on Monday. Neither college kid has ever arrived home with more than a suitcase or two over break. I don’t know where the stuff is going to go. We will have a guest in the guest room when she arrives so I can’t stash it all in there. Anyway, looking forward to having everyone home for a bit,
Son is home! Relaxation is in the cards. Checking grades for Q1 is allowed, but that is all.
D is home as of last night. She is catching up on sleep and will likely spend much of the break sleeping…
When not sleeping, she is going to help out at a food bank and do some doctor shadowing (she is pre-med). It feels very peaceful to have her at home. Of course I enjoy her company, but I have to admit it is nice that I can not worry so much about her safety since she is home. Not sure if other parents worry as much as I do about their young adult children.
@momofsmartdancer I think we all worry, but the reasons probably vary - safety, health, happiness, etc. I wish I worried less, but it seems impossible!
S is home tonight. Yay! D will hopefully arrive Saturday. Other S is living the life, traveling in Europe during his winter break from grad school. He was smart to attend grad school overseas - he’s already seen and done so much since going over in September. Looking forward to a few peaceful days before the weekend flurry of activity hits.
@momofsmartdancer - I worried more when they first started college. As each has progressed, my generalized worrying has subsided somewhat. My worrying is now more situation specific.
DD2016’s major has officially changed on her school portal to…Secondary Education. Bye, bye DPT, hello HS biology teacher.
@labegg , Out of curiosity, What changed your D16’s mind about DPT? HS Bio teacher is such a different career, but it would seem the Bio degree and PT classes would be very similar.
