I just realized I have posted and have not introduced myself. I have one daughter - she will be a first generation to college. She would love to get into a top schools and realizes the work needed. We are from a rural small public high school. She will be taking 5 AP classes her junior year and 2 her senior year. She is considering quest bridge.

welcome Sophmore1

I have twin Ds who will graduate in 2016. We will see what happens next year with the PSAT.

Yes, the all important upcoming test. A little nervous for her.

So for those in the 2016 club or in the know, how important is the SAT Math 2 test for science and Engineering majors?

My son did a practice test (wants engineering) and did very poorly.

He does have a 4.0 GPA and did ok on his PSAT with a 186 for a sophomore.

fflmaster: I think engineering schools (you might want to look up the ones your kid is most likely intersted in) want a science and a math SAT2 but which ones may be different. Most kids take the SAT2 after the highest level of that class. For example, my kid is in Chemistry honors this year, but he probabably wonāt take the Chem SAT2 until he takes AP CHEM

Last full day of spring breakā¦
1.Reading completed? nah āI got Saturday or Sunday to do it.ā
2.Report for world civ class completed? nah see 1. for reason
3. Slept over 100 hours on break completed? yup
And we head into the homestretch of sophomore year in less than 70 days he will be a Junior.
And Iām sure that maturity will have occurred [-O<

āI am so angryā¦she made that homework assignment equal to a test grade! Thatās not fair!ā Me: āwhatād you get?ā
DS: āa zeroā Me: āoh, howād that happen?ā DS: āI couldnāt find itāā¦I really hope there is a MAJOR JUMP into maturity BEFORE JUNIOR YEAR??? X_X

Is it time to start the 3.0-3.3 group for
the '16?
If He continues on the track he is on he will be well entrench in that group by the end of first semester junior year.
At this point we are currently in the group āwhere did your 3.3-3.6 student get in?ā

thatās my S too! is it a bad thing to say āIām glad to know I am not alone in this boat?ā

fflmaster:

What math has your son had? SAT Math 2 is recommended for after finishing pre-calc. SAT Math 1 is for those who havenāt. I think Math 2 is preferred. For Engineering programs, at least in our state, you need to demonstrate calculus readiness (they donāt require having had calculus), but (and this is my opinion), a low score on math 2 would be a problem. But low can be relative.

Well itās Sunday and the rush to get all the work left to do over break is onā¦NOT.
He seems more engaged in the matter of deciding if he should watch a documentary for his world civ paper or just wing it!!!
Hopefully, he will make a decision soon, because I donāt have much time left in this life to wait with abated breath for the it . 8-|

The reading believe or not (because Iām having a hard time with this) was completedā¦when I donāt know, it must have been between when he got up from a nap, showered, played some video games, ate and went back to bed.
School canāt start soon enough!!

my S is in schoolā¦has two papers due tomorrow, before the marking period ends, also a chem and history test by end of the weekā¦and heās planning on what to eat for the āmarathonā of Game Of Thronesā¦!!! I envy fflmaster whoās kid seems organized enough to even think of SAT subject testsā¦oh, waitā¦DS did say something about thatā¦he wondered if he should attend the after school reviews for Chem SAT IIā¦hmmmmā¦ havenāt heard when/where/ etc.

Well we just did a tour of the East Coast and as it turns out, my son claims he is now extremely motivated to try to get into Harvard. He says he will study as much as it takes to do good on the SAT. He knows it is a long shot, but why not try he figures. We also visited, Brown (which he loved) Boston College, Boston University and MIT. He decided that MIT is not for him, too quiet he said.

maybe we will see that maturity and approach seep into my S tooā¦??? weāll go visit a school or two over his breeak.

No maturity hereā¦engrossed in writing a short story (no reason), but has chemistry, Spanish presentation, and world civ homework for tomorrow.
I have heard the intro, the first paragraph and the concept, for the short story. Have heard nothing about the current work he should be doing ugggggg

Hoosier96: maybe our kids are either clonesā¦or will be future roomates somewhereā¦! ~X(
I liked this emotocanā¦just donāt have the greatest glassesā¦I think itās tearing my hair out!!!

Better make that roommate assignment a suite. My son has been letting spring fever get to him. Heās missing six homework assignments in one class. Eek! And no, no late submissions are accepted. This is not a difficult class, either; he just hates doing and turning in Cornell notes. (Canāt say I blame him there, but Iām not the one who wants to go off to college, either.)

Here is to sophomore moms with boys who are maturing, slowly,; but itās got to happen someday, right? I offer you a drink of your choice today
And a big shout out those who have kids that have their act together.
Iām anxiously awaiting the roller coast ride next year with our '16s. I just ask if I start screaming I want off, please someone remind me that the only way off, is when the ride is over. .
He did text me on his west civ test he took before breakāāremember mom Bās are better than C,sā. Yes it will happen, yes it will happen (presently chanting)ā¦

right. I think we can start a list of all those āexcusesāā¦today, the teacher āshowed upā¦she said she was going to be outā¦but she showed upā¦and she asked why I didnāt have my book with meā¦I told her she said she wasnāt going to be thereā¦so, I didnāt bring itā¦ā ā and he wants to go to one of those small LACās which are too impossible to get intoā¦boy, I am NOT looking forward to next year! @-)
