We were given family link so we can see both of mine. It links us to their (student) page.

what is PrepMe? never seen it, never heard of itâŠis it useful?

Did anyone get AP scholar award certificate in the mail today? We did not get our, but few people on parents 15 got theirs.

Drmom123 itâs a PSAT prep offered through naivance. S has logged on and did some exercises but he did let me know that the blue book was more effectiveâŠI hope truly he is prepping, only time will tell and it will real soon.

S16 wonât be eligible for any sort of AP scholar until the end of this year-- though if all goes well heâll bypass straight to National. Heâs only taken three thus far, but heâs taking several this year (Calc BC, Physics B, Micro, Macro, USHist, US Gov, and Comp Gov). Four of those are semester classes, so itâs not as intense as it looks. That two week stretch in May will be busy though!

Naviance Parent log-on? This is news to me! Here only students have log on info (which d graciously shared with me). @hoosier96 thanks for passing on your Sâs view of Prepme - Iâm not as envious of those with more Naviance options as I was before:-)

PSAT seems to be very downplayed at our high school. It costs $10 or so to take it, and is administered at the high school during the school day. Thanks for whomever mentioned the prep scholar â we may sign up for a trial to check it out.

Hereâs a link to last yearâs qualifying scores: http://www.studypoint.com/ed/national-merit-scores/
FWIW, last year many of the statesâ qualifying scores went up 2 to 3 points. This year, as best I can tell, the scores that changed dropped 1 to 3 points.

I apologize to those here for whom this isnât relevant, as there have been a lot of posts about PSAT/NMSF stuff on this thread lately (as the PSAT test date draws near). Itâs just that there are not a whole lot of other discussions going on here!

Now if I just had a crystal ball to tell me what the cuts off will be next year!

@AsleepAtTheWheelâ - thanks. MA is always one of the highest (223) and boarding school is also pretty high (I donât know which one exactly my sonâs school falls into, but his counselor told them over 220 was the cutoff last year). Given this, I wonât be expecting S to hit the NMSF cutoffs - but am sure hoping he will do the best he can. No news from him in a few days - am hoping no news is good news :)

@asleepatthewheel, I have been watching the cut off scores as well. D16 had a qualifying score freshman year, but would have missed by 2 points this year. I am actually feeling cautiously optimistic, as she did not prep either time, and this year she is working to be ready. She experienced a drop in her math score during the soph year test, and I wonder if that has to do with being over a year out of Alg 2 at that point (she did pre-calc freshman year.) So it seems that lower level math review will be a must.

I should add, we would really look for schools offering good money for NMF if she qualified, so itâs about more than the feather in the cap.

@3scoutsmom, just catching up now (I often read on my phone and canât reply because I canât remember my CC password and have to wait to get to the home computer where it is saved. By then I have forgotten what I wanted to say! lol) We paid over $100 for D16âs parking pass; canât recall exact amount. The painful part is that she only takes one class a day at the school! And there is plenty of parking, so itâs not like itâs a premium commodity.

Have to say it is GREAT having her driving, as nervewracking as it was/is (especially with our crazy winter driving situation up here.)

My crystal ball says the PSAT scores next year will be +0, +1, +2, or +3 for 90% of the states.

AP awards have been trickling in for a while. My kid got one almost 2 weeks ago but others have received only one or two days ago.

I think there is quite a bit of luck involved with NMSF esp for those living in very high cutoff areas, like Arisampâs S. We recently moved back to the U.S., so the Texas cutoff is looking a lot better than the International cutoff.

My Sâs new high school takes the PSAT very seriously. They are reviewing in English and Math classes. Iâve decided that my S has enough stress and changes this year, so Iâm not pushing him to do much other prep outside of a Sat morning review session at the school. He usually tests well (doesnât do so well with daily assignments), so Iâm hoping for the best.

The school had open house this week after just 2 weeks of classes. The teachers said theyâve had a lot of students with schedule changes, so they didnât know all the students yet. Only 2 of 7 teachers knew who my child was!

Parking spots at our HS are $200. The students are assigned a specific lot but not a spot. There seem to be enough spots in each assigned lot. But, juniors can be further awayâŠthey pay the same amount but the walk is over 1/4 of a mile from the HS.

Ok so I donât feel as bad about our high priced high school parking! I caved and put in a bid for one of the way over priced premium spots the PTO was auctioning off and was surprised to get it with for only slightly over the minimum bid. This should save both D16 and S18 about 30/45 minutes a day and will be a joint birthday present (since neither of them would tell me what they want for their b-days!) The money goes to the PTO so I feel Iâve made our contribution for the year;-)

@AKFirefly â youâve probably already seen this, but hereâs the best compilation Iâve found of schools that âoffer good moneyâ to NMFâs. Some of these offers are absolutely incredible, including many states significantly warmer than AK, with no risk of hitting a moose on the way to school!
http://nmfscholarships.yolasite.com/

@AKFirefly when you get your list narrowed down, try to talk someone from those schools about their NM scholarships. Some schools offer things that are not included on the web site like auto admit to their honors college, priority class registration, application fee waiver⊠sometimes the little things really add up!

@AKFirefly: I think being out of lower level math makes a huge difference. S16 is at the same level math as your D. He didnât do particularly great on the Accuplacer (for DE classes) because he didnât remember some of the math, but got a 5 on his Calc AP. I need to remind him to review his algebra-- thanks for the nudge!
Ironically, D16, who actually IS in Algebra II because of some struggles with math in 8th and 9th grade, could possibly do as well as he does.
