Iā€™ve been MIA for a few weeks. I lost my job on May 8th (which was the day before my birthday ā€“ yay me) and Iā€™ve been trying to get my act together while getting D15 home and D17 through projects, finals, and job training.

Congratulations to everyone who has been through their ceremony already! Dā€™s was this afternoon, and it was mercifully brief ā€“ around 500 graduates and it clocked in at under two hours.

Funny thing about Vandyā€¦

D and I were at Macyā€™s last weekendā€¦D has Vandy shirt on. This nice gentleman started telling us about how he missed Nashville (they lived there for years ) and how D will enjoy the city and the school.

Today at grocery store, D and I ran into to her ex-swim coach and were answering that she is going to Vandy when this lady told usā€¦she went to Vandy and D will enjoy it very much.

In the office hockey pool, I voted against our home team for Nashville Predators :wink:

950 kids in 90 minutes??!! That is amazing. And very impressive. Ours took about 2 hours yesterday with about 360 kids. Was a nice ceremony. Nice lunch after and now about a month to get ready for her party.

Graduation was a success yesterday, though I envy those of you with speedy commencements. Three hours for 65 kids is a lot of time sitting in plastic folding chairs. But all in all, they did a great job of highlighting everyone and their accomplishments. D is so happy itā€™s over. Now the longest wait ever til move in day.

As a parent, I am expecting the shortest wait ever until move in day. And its just under 3 months away. Life needs a brake sometimes.

Just unloaded the grandparents at airports after graduation 4-day weekend.

D17 spoke as salutatorian (along with val and class orator who is 3rd in class); 399 graduates, 2-hour ceremony, and estimated 6,000 attendants in the local coliseum. Relieved she pulled it off!

Small party for IB students last night and now we move on to summer job.

I am feeling a huge sense of relief!

@jmek15 I know I wrote it before, but whatever; my D17 is going to Colorado College.

Graduation was Friday, and thereā€™s @ 110 kids in her class, and the whole thing was 90 minutes anyway. Two wonderful teachers are leaving/retiring and my favorite administrator too. Scarecrow, I think Iā€™ll miss you most of all!

@youcee, oops, on the Berkeley spelling!! Accidental, Iā€™m sure. ;))

So today D15 left for Italy. Except she didnā€™t. She had a Boston-NY-Rome flight, and the Boston leg landed 3 minutes before the Rome flight departed without D and the 2 others attending the program from MA. We had a 3 hour window for her layover, but that wasnā€™t enough. Before we knew that she had connected with two others from the program I was a wreck. The airlines (AA) told us she was going to have to stay over in NY and take the same flight the next evening. It was an enormous relief that there were 3 of them. Itā€™s not that I didnā€™t think she could handle it, but itā€™s just easier to deal with these things as a group! DH was already in the car driving to NY when we found out she was with other students, so he ended up just turning around. Current plan has the kids waiting in the Admirals Lounge (free food) for a late flight to DĆ¼sseldorf with a connection to Rome tomorrow afternoon. They only have a 45 minute window for that connection, so we are laying odds that theyā€™ll have to wait another 4 hours for the last leg of their journey. Her first summer abroad (mis)adventure and she hasnā€™t even left US soil. TBH Iā€™m still sort of a wreck.
