The student’s SAT score report includes his percentile ranking within his own HS for each of the three subsections. Does the ACT score report include the same? Just idle curiosity, after reading above posts.

I can’t find my D’s paper ACT score, but I looked up her score report online and I don’t see a comparison to her state or HS like the SAT report has. Perhaps I’m overlooking it but I don’t see it.

@CT1417 – I don’t think so. At least I don’t remember seeing that on my DS’s ACT reports. It’s funny how that stuff fades away after the college process is done …

Also, so MANY of us with 2014s in this group too! Guess we’ll be repeating our cruise on SS Indecision in another four years.

@jennie11 – thank you! The on-line SAT report does include HS percentiles but I have never seen an ACT report, so was just curious.

@2014novamom – Thanks! I have a 2017 but that thread is very quiet. I should take a CC break but know that I won’t!

Ahh - the SS Indecision. We spent some time on that ship last year. And then, within a blink of an eye, I’m on the road this morning to pick up S’13 after his freshman year in college (making it a 2 day drive to avoid falling asleep at the wheel). I hugged S’18 a little tighter this morning

Guess I should pop into this thread. I have 3 kids, D hs class of 2016, S hs class of 2018, and S hs class of 2020. My ‘2nd scout’ hopes to start 9th grade this fall in a out of district public school. We homeschool and when they kids are old enough for high school, we encourage them to choose their own paths. My oldest applied and was accepted to a wonderful out of district public school two years ago and has done very well there. S has applied to the same school. Having a sibling already attending should help with acceptance but notifications won’t go out until late May.

With his sister I worried about the social transition to public school but she did fine, with S I worry more about the structure of the academics. He’s one of those kids who likes to argue about answers and hates to show his work on math problems. We’ve been working on this and I think with teachers that aren’t his parents he’ll be be fine. He’s also more social than his sister but doesn’t share her work ethic <sigh></sigh>

I really hope he gets into this high school as he really doesn’t have a plan “B” in mind. Our local high school is not an option. S already has some high school credits (health, Algebra 1, Geometry, World Geography) taken through our local university’s on-line high school program. I’ve not been too happy with these classes but it was the easiest way to get ‘official’ credit that the public high school would accept.

I’ve learned so much from CC and so happy a friend told me about it!

I think we will need to enlist the help of “The Captain” AvonHSDad four years from now to bring us to shore!

I actually just printed ACT reports today as my 2015 D just got her writing score. Her report has percentiles for state and U.S. Her PLAN score report compared her scores to our high school. She is not taking the SAT so I can’t comment about that.

Welcome @3scoutsmom !

Thanks everyone for the comments regarding AP classes, etc. My daughter registered for 9th grade last week, and chose “option 2” above. To save you the trouble of looking back several pages, she’ll be taking Honors Bio I, Pre-AP English, Honors Alg II, Honors Chemistry I, French I, French II, Wellness and Art.

She’s happy with her choice - I think her indecision about AP Human Geo was more about not wanting to be “behind” her classmates who are taking an AP as a freshman, and less about any real interest in the class. I assured her it won’t make a bit of difference at the end of four years.

I find the discussion about keeping kids off CC very interesting. I was able to dissuade S’11 from ever coming on this website - he was content to let me do the research and tell him what I learned. I hope D’18 will be the same way.

We’ve already begun compiling a college list, and visited her first school over spring break this year. I agree it’s very early, but in the interest of full disclosure, I have stage 4 cancer, and don’t feel comfortable putting this off for 3 years. If the worst should happen, I’d like for her to have had some of my input and to feel that we got to do some of the college search together. She’s much more interested in the process than my son was, and we’ve enjoyed looking so far. If a miracle occurs, then we’re still just ahead of the game. It’s a win-win.

Again, thanks for all the insight - this is such a helpful community!

jcc: Sounds like a challenging schedule. She’ll have plenty of time to find the subjects she loves and take APs. Awed by your courage. prayers.

Jcc–prayers and good vibes for you.

Jcc, your story is a reminder to all of us to enjoy every moment–and visiting colleges can be great fun!

We always had good fun visiting colleges. jcc - good thoughts and wishes. You are setting a great example for how to be a parent for your daughter (and for us).

@jcc mom, I also took my DD1 to visit Standford, UCB and UCD during our San Francisco spring break trip. Although she still doesn’t knownwhat she wants to major yet, but at least she now knows how big is college campus and how much it takes in HS. We plan to show her the reach schools to motivate her to do her best in next four year. Only put enough effort will give her “options” to select whichever school she wants to attend. If not much effort then options will reduce as well. We also plan to take her to local community college @ 9th grade for her to do her own comparision. @jcc, my sis was 4th stage breast cancer years ago when my neice and nephew were in MS and HS, the will power to see her children going to colleges was so strong, she overvomed chemotherapy and become organic vegetarian for 5 years and miracle happened. Stay positive and strong for your children, you have our prayers.

The smart balance common core exams will start next week, my DD is nervous with computerized test…

Hope everyone had a wonderful mother’s day!

DD’18 just had her class’ 8th grade Awards day. The promotion Dance is tomorrow. High School is around the cormer!

Have anyone plan to sign their child either for take summer HS courses or any other summer plans?
I plan for my DD to take a pre-view Biology and Algebra 2 courses and one week to attend summer camp at UCLA. But she will also join her school golf team practice in Aug. Her school wing start until 9/4 after labor day…she cant wait…

S’18 will be taking HOPE online (health/PE). His school requires students to take at least on online class and he figured he would get this requirements out of the way this summer. He’s going to 2 weeks of percussion camp and then spending the rest of the summer working with the HS marching band ahead of the football season (which is a big deal here - think Friday night lights). So - a busy summer for him.
