Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

Two weeks left for S18! He decided to stay there and take two summer courses for required major classes that are harder to schedule in the fall. It will free up his fall schedule quite a bit. We will miss him but he will be in a musical in a local theater and we will go see it. He will end up home later in the summer for about five weeks, and will make summer vacation with us.

Roll call on my Class of 2018 parents! Whatā€™s the countdown to get your kid back under your roof? That was a fast first year, am I right?

17 days and counting

18!

Glad sheā€™ll be home for the summer. I noticed from other Class Of 20xx threads that oftentimes this is the last summer the kids live at home. So time to enjoy and squeeze out every memory you can!

Home last Friday, gotta love Pitt!

D18 is done with finals. Sheā€™s staying with her sister, who lives in the same city, then flying home Saturday.

It went so fast! Sheā€™s our homebody and it turned out to be very positive that she went far away. She has gained confidence and been forced to take care of things.

Sheā€™s renting an apt next year with her same roommate and plans to live there next summer. Iā€™ll miss her but sheā€™s in Charleston, SC so I canā€™t blame her.

Driving to Clemson on Friday to pick her upā€¦

D18 takes her only two finals today and will be driving home on Saturday. Then she is headed to the mountains for a couple of days with a few local classmates and will be back Monday. We get her home for roughly a month and then she flies to Colorado for a mission trip for two months. Itā€™s always the middle child that is so darn independent.

@hopewhite25 what kinds of things is she going to do on her mission trip?

@melvin123 She is actively involved with Cru at school and they offer multiple mission trips in the US. They actually hold their annual conference in Colorado for all of the Cru staff and she will be doing childcare for staff members. The mission part would also include going out in the community of Fort Collins on the evenings and weekends. There is the potential for things like they did on their Spring Break trip as well (helping out with Habit for Humanity houses, and food drives and things like that).

@hopewhite25 My D is involved with Power2Change at McGill. I think thatā€™s the Canadian branch of Cru. She really loves it. She considered doing an overseas mission trip this summer, but opted for a summer class instead.

@ShrimpBurrito Thatā€™s awesome! I am glad that she decided to at least stay in the US this summer, but Iā€™m sure I will not be as lucky next year.

@hopewhite25 @ShrimpBurrito you must be so happy that your girls are so actively involved in something that will be with them their whole lives. I hope they have a great summer!

He just signed his sublease for summer school, so not til July!

Sameā€¦picking up Friday!

Picking up S18 on the 11th, S16 on the 17th.

@hopewhite25 and @ShrimpBurrito I love that your kids are involved with such a wonderful organization! What a blessing. I think Amherst College is too small for CRU.

Six more weeks because the UC schools start late!

@pickledginger wow that is late.

Ditto, @pickledginger ! Ah, the quarter system.

My student finished up 4/30 - not coming home, staying on campus as an Orientation Leader for the Freshman orientations that occur all summer long. Had a great year, decided on a major and a career path, pulled great grades and had a fantastic first year.
