I am anxiously awaiting the June 8, ACT scores. I am trying to get my hopes up as my child did noto practice as much as the first time.
@holychild My kid said not to bother looking. This was the test she prepared the most for and believes her scores will go down considerably. This was probably her final attempt. We will have to be happy with what she has.
Best of luck with your familyās scores.
@sibpuri I donāt think anyone on this list really knows how it impacts her chances. There are so many other classes, grades, test scores, interests, involvement, leadership, essays, letters of rec etc. that admissions committees look at when evaluating a candidate.
Yes - NSHSS is a scam. Also, they stole my email address for a brief time (Iām a teacher) and were claiming I endorsed them. It took me calling and speaking to a VP and threatening that I would personally telephone everyone in our district to debunk them as a scam before they retracted it.
@Octagon - thatās a very nice gesture, and a sign of what would be an excellent letter, that the teacher approached your child. If you can, Iād see if she can write an extra letter for him for colleges that will take a third (?) - otherwise just profuse thanks and pride.
I am extremely disappointed this morning, ACT scores went down significantly second sitting. I think we are done with testing. We canāt even superscore because the scores did not improve in the areas that they needed to. We will have to go with the first score of 31. I had hoped that the scores would have gone up a little to make super scoring worthwhile. I really donāt have any confidence that child will do what is neccessary to improve significantly for September so we will move on and spend the time working on essays and applications.
@fretfulmother Thanks for the suggestion! I especially appreciate your viewpoint as a teacher.
Iām sorry about the disappointment, @holychild.
Happier news over here: S finally got to that elusive 34 benchmark, putting him in range for potential merit at Pitt. Superscore is now 35, which matters for UGA and FSU. UofSC remains his first choice, but a top merit package could lure him elsewhere. Iām eager to see where the chips fall.
@myrna97 - I didnāt realize you could apply for housing before acceptance. Do you need to put a deposit down for that? I like how Duluth does it. You can wait until May to apply for housing, but your spot in the list for housing preference is based on your acceptance date, so we definitely want to apply there ASAP.
@holychild - I think weāre going with a 31 as well. I know he could improve it if he focused on the reading and English sections, but I donāt think heād take the time over the summer to study. Heās got a lot going on and just doesnāt care that much about raising it.
@sibpuri - welcome to these forums. you can learn so so so much here about your D and college admissions and finances and etc⦠Keep reading and asking.
there are lots of sub-forums; and you might have more luck with your specific question in the college admissions forum rather than in this class of 2020 parents forum. But - stick around here as well!
Still waiting for our scores here.
I donāt know how to copy the usernames. Congrats to your son Shrimpburrito. I am glad you got good news. I trying to not let this disappointment drag me down but it is really hard. I really hoped the scores would have gone up a point or two in the math and science to superscore to a 32 or 33 but instead they went down all around.
@holychild just put and @ before the username with no space and it should auto fill.
@3scoutsmom thanks. It worked!!!
Itās so nice to be in this thread with others at the same stage I am.
@holychild Sorry that it didnāt work out. @ShrimpBurrito Congrats on the happy news!
I stayed up to get the scores (since I was already awake close to that time) and once I found out that my S20 got a 36, I had trouble falling back asleep. He had to postpone the April test since he had an acute medical problem, so he/we feel relieved that he can put this behind him.
WOW, @Octagon !! Congratulations!
@ShrimpBurrito Thanks! Academics and test-taking are his strengths. Athletics - uh not so much. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully the kids who donāt test as well realize that also.
@Octagon I feel lucky my D20 sees this intrinsically. We havenāt gotten her score yet (but a 25 would be a dream score for her) but when we talked about scores on test day she said, āLina can get a 31 but can she dance a solo en pointe?ā We were on the way to rehearsals and this was tongue in cheek about her sister, but she totally gets it and I appreciate that.
@milgymfam She obviously has wisdom beyond her years!
