@Musicmom2015 Congratulations. My S20 joked that there are limits now to how much he can truly mess up his life!
Regarding grades, I told my S20- 10 more days - no blowing it by not turning in an assignment. Then you can relax.

Congrats to those getting into NEU tonight! Hoping yāall got huge merit!!!
DS20 got into NEU honors program with merit; major is CS and Math. After a series of deferrals this is a welcome relief for him. We were unaware that results will be coming out today.
About the senioritis - is there a word for junioritis ? because DS hit this phase last year early second semester. His grades affected initially - though he was able to recover some of the lost ground at the end - it did affect his overall grade. That seems to be factoring in college admission results (may not be the full reason but who knows). I am sure his senioritis will be much higher. We are begging him to be on top of things till his mid-year grades are sent out in mid-Feb.
Congrats for those who were accepted! DS20 was deferred. Not as good as an acceptance but there is still hope!
D20 finished first semester with all Aās in 6 AP classes. Our district does do Val/Sal but its not even announced at graduation and they donāt speak unless they sign up for it. Class rank is set after 7th semester, D20 will graduate #4 in her class of 600.
That said, i can see that shes definitely letting up a little and trying to spend more time with her friends and less time with her head in her books. Hereās hoping she finds a good balance.
My DS20 was deferred too from Northeastern for CS. Wasnāt a huge surprise because of yield protection, but it would have been nice for him just to be in! His first semester grades should help, as well as hopefully becoming a NMF and just hearing heās a candidate for US Presidential Scholars Program. Heāll need to put some good time into his LOCI and we may even do another visit. Good luck to your son!
Thanks @dreambig55! Good luck to yours too!
I was just looking at the other 3 (RD) schools he has yet to hear from. If history means something, Northeastern will still be the one he hears from next, with the others a week or so later.
Midterms are done here. D20 might get her first ever B, but no biggie. I have not pressured her on studying or grades for the last 3.5 years so I am not going to start now.
Iām laughing at my inability to stop reading threads that are no longer relevant for my D20. I could use the excuse that it might be relevant for my S21, but Iām just kidding myself. I was reading all about the timing for USCās merit boxes and had to remind myself that she withdrew her app - sheās not getting any box.
@Darcy123 Iām doing the same here lol. D20 is happily in at her ED school so we are done with this phase, but I still keep reading the threads. Gotta wean myself off, I guess.
Actually getting an acceptance is only the tip of the iceberg, soon we all need to discuss health insurance, what dorm items to buy, class schedule, move-in day, how to treat the holidays/breaks, summer internships, clubs/Greeks system issues, research, career fairs, job prospects, not to mention graduate college! Our job is far from being done here lol ?
My D20ās stress level has noticeably declined this week. She got in to her preferred EA and her backup. She is now just touching up some scholarship applications and getting ready for IB testingā¦the last big stressor. IB kids canāt totally relax until IB results are inā¦in July!
I wonder what happens to the admits if, for some reason they fail to get IB Diploma?
@MickeyEarwax thatās wonderful for your daughter! My older daughter got her IB diploma. I do not think much happens in the states if they do not get their IB diploma. However, in Europe, I think many colleges acceptances are contingent on receiving the IB diploma and/or certain scores on the IB exams.
The things we do for our kids. Up at 2:30 AM to drive my daughter to an airport an hour and half away so she can catch her early morning flight for a scholarship interview. Still while driving I thought- I am going to miss her so much next year. No one makes me laugh as much as she does.
D20 got 2 more acceptances yesterday. Sheās now in UTK (volunteer scholarship), UGA, NC State, and UNC Chapel Hill. Still waiting on a few. Big decision to be made.
Congratulations @chb088. Belated congrats to hs2020dad for the acceptance. There is still hope for the deferrals.
DS is waffling big time. We thought we were down to two schools, but one scholarship didnāt come through like we thought it would and now he got a crazy good financial aid offer from his 3rd choice school putting it right back on the table. I canāt say Iām really enjoying this part. I wish he could just commit and be all in to one school, but itās so hard.
While it seems the process is winding down for some here, itās just ramping up for lil kid.
One safety and one reach in hand and 11 decisions to go. (I had lost track of how many apps went out.) March will be THE month.
The next step is a campus visit and scholarship interview for the reach.
@lilmom we are in the same boat.
@lilmom and @lkg4answers Same, same! 2 safeties (1 of which wasā¦an accidental submit? Sort of a head scratcher.) But waiting for the true ābig pictureā to be revealed, which wonāt be until March, tho possibly mid-Feb with a couple of CSUs.
