I am hoping those ticking time bombs in the common app will light a fire. So many supplements still left. The good news is that he is totally ready to record his music supplement Friday. Hoping that goes well and we can cross one huge and expensive box off.
S24 first acceptance today! Itâs a likely/safety but he is clearly pleased and relieved to have one in the pocket so early. In the meantime, work on the first-choice ED app continues.
No applications submitted here and she has 5 due 11/1 . I think she will get it all done but she is so busy with school, activities, medical appointments for an injury and her social life that I do worry a bit. She also has to decide if she in fact is ready to commit and do ED at the school thatâs been a top contender since early on. It is a stressful time!
I think we are down to 2 things by 10/31 or 11/1. One scholarship application and one college app. The college is nearly done - just one more short answer to finish up. There is a lot more after that, but at least I think sheâll be good for this deadline. I was still hoping more would be crossed off the list by now, but once marching band ends, she will have more time and that will help a lot!
Good luck to all in these last couple weeks before 11/1!
Weâve got 3 due 11/1. Heâs still committed to his ED and his supplements are underway, but I wouldnât be surprised if one of his EA schools gets moved to RD (the one with more essays, of course).
At this point I am becoming glad S24 has an REA school, because it could have been pretty overwhelming (or, properly, more overwhelming) if there had also been other EA schools. It is still Application #3, but #1 and #2 have already been submitted. This has the most bits and pieces yet, but hopefully with just the one to focus on it can get done.
Getting an REA acceptance is a stress reliever. When that REA acceptance is also #1 on the college list - priceless!
My concern at this point is that S24s teacher has yet to review and grade the essay that he wants to submit to Williams for their academic essay. I think it is good but we need a professional opinion. It was submitted as a class assignment a month ago. This is the first really thoughtful academic essay he has written in a while so there arenât really other choices. Since they have no other supplement this âoptionalâ part of the application does not really seem optional.
It is in fact S24âs clear #1, so that would be great! However, also very hard. Weâll see.
My main concern is he might get deferred, and then he will have to decide whether he wants to ED II at a second-choice. But we shall cross that bridge when and if it happens.
And that is going to be fun times everywhere!
I know, right?
Having the same REA school throughout the list-forming process (confirmed in an early visit) has made it easy for him to avoid the ED madness so far, but then he will drop right into it with very little time to decide if he doesnât get accepted. So we are trying to have a lot of discussions and work through the ED II options well in advance, but . . . it is all going to get very real, very fast, if he doesnât get accepted to his REA school.
So there is one future path where we are done and relaxing, and another path where it suddenly gets way more complicated than anything we have faced so far.
As you say, fun!
Same here. I think he is pretty settled on Williams. I donât know if they defer. If they do does he go with his ED2 option which has a much higher likelihood of acceptance with ED or do all of the auditions and tons of other applications to keep Williams as a possibility. He can have a very calm abs relaxing winter or one that is total chaos (he will be applying RD to several schools that have music auditions)
S24 is doing other applications with the assumption that he will be rejected from his ED1 school. He really likes the school but he is ok with any other school on his list, he says. I guess that will make things easier.
Probably the worst scenario is to be deferred from ED1 school. I donât think he will use an ED2 card in that case and wait it out.
At least from what I can tell, more and more colleges are bowing to pressure from counselors and such and rejecting rather than deferring when the applicant really does not have a serious chance in RD.
For the essays, S24 is doing okay. He submitted 1 EA last week and is ready for another 4 including ED1 due 11/1.
We are in CA so S24 focused on UC personal prompts after the summer with the idea that they will be reused in the common app. There are many supplemental essay topics related to community involvement for example, so we made sure one of his UC prompts is on the topic.
We are on a similar boat.
We are in the same boat, but havenât made a final decision on ED school. One more plane ride for a second visit in early November. We deleted one school since the ED deadline was 11/1. Doing our best with 11/15 schools. No super excited, but honestly, thatâs the way it should be. Never get pumped up about only one school.
D24 has five EAs in so far. She has been accepted at two universities and is guaranteed at a third. She may have one more application in her. NowâŠthe waiting begins.
Is there a website to see the acceptance rates broken out by EA vs. ED vs. RD for all colleges?
Just got the ED agreement form from Common App so D24 has officially decided to commit to ED. Very proud of her for really thinking it through and ultimately realizing that she would have regrets come April were she to apply RD and not get in. Now she knows sheâs truly done everything she can to get in to the school. Thankfully, sheâs excited about lots of schools so will be okay if things donât work out with the ED school.
