Parents: Oldtimers, when did you find CC?

Someone asked me off-forum when I came on CC, when others came on CC, etc. I'm not sure about many and some have changed their screen names from the Old Board.

I first came on the board in to find out info about PSAT/National Merit issues. I think that was in October 2002.

How many others who came here in 2002 or 2003 are still here and when did you first arrive?

I found this forum in fall 2003 when my S was a junior. I followed the EA and ED trials of Susan, Garland, et al. The advice has been invaluable. Especially I love the campus visit reports. Thank you, thank you to all. S is my youngest child, so no more college searches after him--- he's been accepted ED.

I came online last year after S had completed applications, but before hearing results. It was a way for me to obsess, but not harass him. Now, it is a guilty pleasure. My other S is a sophmore, so I'll have a real excuse next year as we start the college search for him. And yes, I basically do check in while avoiding work.

I stumbled in last spring just a week before the final decisions were coming out and was astounded to find so many folks hoping their daughters would get into Smith, just as we were. Fun at first (the amazing drama of the days the various decisions came) and then kind of a tense week as everybody else's daughter was offered a Stride Scholarship at Smith and thus knew they were in. But then mine got in, too, so that was cool. It's probably a good thing I didn't check in earlier because I really didn't have that much time to get worked up!

Side note: after posting, I got curious and went to the Old Board and messed around with "Search" for a while. Finally found what I think was my first post, a bit later than I thought...January 15, 2003. I didn't recognize many of the poster names from back in August 2002 or so but the names from early '03 were familiar, including some people who are still around, such as Shennie. Other names suddenly became alive again: students Quarky, Noshiksagoddess, Rowan, Twinkle, Chasgoose...parents like MassDad, AnotherDad, Calquest, Hautbois.....

Wonder how Twinkle's doing. . .Anybody heard?

Came on in fall (or spring?) of 2003, looking for National Merit state cut-off info. Found that the info here was much more plain than anything the school or National Merit offerred. Stayed through application season of 2003-2004--Yale EA Massacre, great news about acceptances, the decision making process of kids (like Evil Robot, et al.) as they made their final choices. Continuing on hoping to hear news about this year's college freshman and to give back what little I can from my experience gleaned from last year (and staying on for the jokes, of course!)

I used the Princeton Review web site when both kids were applying (fall of '02), then migrated over here when "everyone" did--except for a few flamers whom I haven't missed a bit.

Why stay after the kids are in college? Well, partly to be helpful.... and partly because I like the company.

I found this after my oldest was already attending college, so it has been a couple years, but since I never attended a 4 year college, and since I was doing college counseling both in the high school and giving out transfer infrmation at the community college, I found it helpful and fascinating ( and addictive!)

Fall 2003, when daughter took PSAT as sophomore. I've received an amazing education in college admissions - surely this counts as a Masters degree!

I think I found CC in late summer 2003. My S has been accepted EA so I no longer have an excuse for frequenting CC; but I wanted to give something back, and stayed on to help some students with their essays, share my experiences, and enjoy the company of posters and the jokes.

December 2003 for me (but I lurked for a while before ever posting) - and like many above it was when I was trying to learn more about PSAT results. I've learned a ton here - it made the college application process much easier.

I did find CC around 15 days ago. And I found other parents suggestion very helpful as I am learning my way through about high school education without embarrassing myself as I have never gone trough the high system in US.

Late 03, I lurked for several months. I'm totally out of excuses, at least until this summer when it is gather up the gear time, but I'm totally hooked. Looking forward to the spring decision drama, even though DD is finished.

I found it in December 2003, while searching for information about ED notification dates; I didn't post until months later, however. The whole subject of college admissions still intrigues me though the appliation process is now only a memory in our family.

I too started on the PR board in late '01 or early '02. My oldest was a junior. Now that my son's a junior, I'm still learning! I know I looked at this board at that time but it was pretty dead. When the PR board went nasty and the moderators seemed to be non-existent I looked over here.

November 2003. Wish I had found it earlier because my son was applying ED around then. Stuck around till now because I'm hooked...and of course for the jokes.

Another member of the Fall 2003 cc Orientation Class here.

Excuse for sticking around even though S is now a freshman in college: D is only in seventh grade!!

December 16, 2004! A friend called that morning to see if my D had heard about her EA application to Yale. I said no, the Yale web page said it will be available that evening. He said check out this web site (CC) and see if people are talking about the decisions coming out early, which he thought they had the year before when his D was waiting on Brown. Sure enough...

I found it for the same reasons and approximately the same time as TheDad.

Began lurking summer 2003 when daughter applied to the SOCOH weekend at Amherst in the hopes of finding out information about the process. Began posting Jan 04, jumped for joy for the acceptances, weeped during the rejections.

However, I have one major question,

Who will do the count down to decisions this year? (I really loved last years count down almost like the 12 days of christmas).
