Hello, I am a junior at a private high school in Los Angeles. From the start of high school, I thought I'd be going to a UC college. Therfore, I took almost all the requirements for a UC school. The problem is that I need two years of science with LABS. I only have one year of biology with labs, and my school offers chemistry with lab only during my senior year. But, if I go to this school next year I will be only taking chemistry and I do not want to waste my whole year doing only that (Paying 20k a year for tuition). As a result, I'd like to enroll at SMC during my senior year and get a headstart. But, I only get my high school diploma if I go to this school next year.

So, I was wondering, if I get a copy of my transcripts and you see that I have all the UC requirements ( except for chemistry), can I still enroll? Also, if not, is there any other route to take to get into a community college like SMC?

The UC system is complicated from my out-of-state point of view. Please post this question in the UC admissions thread:

[California Colleges - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/california-colleges/)

I don’t think you’ll have any problem taking the science class and lab at a community college and transfer it back to your High School as “dual enrollment” credit. You would then graduate with diploma needed and then can apply to the UC’s as a freshman in Oct (just take the one course and lab!).

Talk to your school counselor and get the necessary paperwork to get registered at this community college for the dual credit (you shouldn’t have any difficulty with this). I would rec that you take this course this summer, so registrar at the community college soon (classes may be starting very soon if not already).

So do return to your HS and finish next year and graduate in '13, apply to the UC’s in the fall with that course transferred from the cc to your HS transcript, in other words.

Even outside of the UC question don’t you have the issue of not getting your HS diploma if you don’t attend your HS your senior year? If you’re missing chemistry, which is a pretty basic class most HS students take, what other classes are you missing? Why do you want to bail out of HS so early - is it just the cost? If it’s the cost - didn’t anyone think of that up front before deciding to go to an expensive private HS?

PM UCBAlumnus for some help.

Can you just take the CHSPE and get on with your life? Another CA expert is annikasorrensen (I hope I got that right). You could PM her as well.

thank you for taking the time to answering my questions guys. It means alot, and I greatly appreciate it!
