So my mom is my Spanish teacher. Totally redundant class. I love it though because she's the harshest teacher of all and yells at the people who need it.. lol

Anyone else have parents as teachers?

Oh my goodness, that is SO cool! Haha, doesn't it ever get kind of akward in class though? What do you call her in class?? I can't even imagine calling my mom Mrs. ___________!

Well, we speak Spanish at home, so I wouldn't call her mom...lol I always talk to her in Spanish and say mama

Isn't that a clear conflict of interest to have your own mother teaching you?

^^Well, I had my own mother way back in 7th grade, and I know several people who had their parents in high school as well. While I think in general they try to separate kids from their parents, the schools I went to had small magnet programs that generally only had one teacher per subject, so if your parent taught, it was somewhat unavoidable.
And to be honest, most teachers who teach their own kids, atl east in my experience, go out of their way to make sure that there is no favoritism perceived, at least in terms of grading--so they are often harsher.

Yeah^^I do agree.

Lol, that's funny.

My mom's going to be a substitute next year so I really don't know what to expect.

At my school many students develop close relationships with teachers. Their children arriving are highly anticipated events. xD

My technology teacher, when we learned his son would be attending we were like hahahah! TIME TO MEET AND GREET! The next year we made it a point to introduce ourselves. Then, whenever I saw him around I would stop, be friendly, chit chat, the usual.

Later I discovered he was avoiding me and his dad joked around and said he was afraid of me... I think he's over that though...hopefully.

I know a couple people whose parents are their own teachers but our school(s) tries/try to avoid that. Still, I remember when somebody said "I have a C- in my mom's class!"

OMG...We have a rule in our house....I am a teacher (both perm. and sub over the years)....When I earned my certification years back, D1 went nuts and made the rule that I am never allowed to teach in her class.....last year her APBio teacher had to be out for a week and wanted me to fill in; d had a fit....Needless to say, no, I never taught in my kids' classes......
