Parents thread! 2014-2015

For Cal Poly parents also waiting for the UC’s to come in:

UCSD is scheduled to call admitted students on the phone to congratulate them throughout this week (March 4-9). This is a tradition at UCSD. See: <a href=“Faculty Participation in the Early Calling Campaign for 2014 Admitted Students”>http://adminrecords.ucsd.edu/Notices/2014/2014-2-20-1.html</a>.

Thank you very much @CDSMOM and @Sudsmom ! Trying to take it day by day and remember that God will make me end up where I am supposed to. And thank you CDSMOM. I do consider myself very determined… Just a little bit about myself… I applied for a job as a gymnastics coach and have been working at the same place for over a year now. My parents didn’t even know until I had applied until I came home and told them I was employed! I also have been told to reconsider my interior design major multiple times, so I took it upon myself to email interior designers, and actually ended up with an internship that I have gone to every week for almost a year now. I am not one to sit back and let things happen, I really like to be involved. I wish I would have gotten to write something for Cal Poly, so then they would know me and not just me as a number.

@santacruz1 - I have not seen very many acceptances for business either. I think knowing this is the only thing that is giving me a little bit of hope… Good luck!

A student on the transfer thread was just waitlisted for Business administration…

As of now 7:18 pm PST on the transfer thread: I saw 1 accepted 3 waitlisted for Business.

Still waiting BME. My D has been accepted to Colorado School of Mines and Univ. of Wyoming. If not SLO it’ll be one of those for Chemical Engineering

@cmama2 - I have children similar to yours. I tell the one that works hard at everything she does that she is learning how to go over, thru, under, or around any mountain that is put in front of her. Learning great life skills :)

@Hdlabfosbd1 - you are gonna land exactly where you are supposed to land  Great plans have been laid for you and you are going to go to college and earn a degree. You will have wonderful opportunities wherever you go  Clearly you will shine - you are a go getter :)! Hold you head up

@nomie1 - Wow, thank you very much! I really appreciate all the support everyone has given me. Hang in there everyone! Best of luck

@joyful1 - A student on the transfer thread was waitlisted yesterday for RPTA…

@CDSMOM what does that mean? How long does that process go on? Does that mean then for our students who are still no decision, may get wait listed? Has anyone been declined officially in the portal?

I wish I knew what it meant!! @joyful1 The good news is that I have not seen or heard of any rejections yet, and some students were still getting acceptances yesterday in engineering and business.

I really hate the term “no determination”.

@CDSMOM it seems like you have the info to check. My D doesn’t want to give me her login info. LOL I’m not sure what is worse being able to check and seeing “no determination” or seeing nothing! LOL This is sooo painful! :-* Good luck!

@Sudsmom - My daughter gave me all of her college app logins so I could check for her. She would rather learn about the decisions from me, then check herself. Relieves her anxiety I guess!!

@sudsmom - Although I have not asked for my daughter’s log in info, she refuses to check her portal. She has been accepted by a few schools via mail and email and she is waiting for UC schools and a few privates. Her additude is, “once I have all my options in front of me, I can make my decision”… I went to Cal Poly and have been following the acceptance threads and can’t wait to find out if she is accepted. I feel the same anxiety as parents on this board, but I have to say, I think she is handling it better than I am. Anyways, it’s been a combination of fun and miserable feelings waiting to find out if Cal Poly accepted her. The said part for me is, if she just would check her portal, we would know where she stands. I can’t blame her method, as she is enjoying her senior year in high school…I wish all of you, Good Luck!..I wish I had her log in info…

I asked the question earlier as to whether those that applied ED and weren’t accepted get preferred review during RD?

No - they are thrown back in the big stack and receive no special consideration.

Given that there are acceptances and waitlists out there, I have to think the no determinations are going to become flush letters. I guess we’ll see. There’s a lot of kids above 4.0 and 2000/30 who are no determination and a lot below that who are getting in due to non-academic points. From what I hear, it’s a 1000 point swing to have parents with graduate degrees and to have come from a good school district. That’s really hard to overcome with GPA and test scores.

According to CP admissions, they are still offering acceptances & waitlists. I was told by April 1, everyone will be informed ( via portal and hard copy), accepted, declined or waitlisted. Waitlist will not know final until end of May.

Does anyone know if they have finished sending acceptances or how long the process lasts?

@Jna643 your post really hit right on for me!

I am really appreciating all the information, support, opinions etc on this thread!
