Is anyone bringing their parents as a guest to orientation or just flying solo?

I’m OOS and not planning on bringing mine.

I may be wrong, but don’t they have programs for the parents while we, the class of 2015, “do our thing”?

There is a lot of important information that parents get during their part of orientation that students do not. It would be very beneficial for at least one parent to attend the sessions designated for them.

The schedule for parents and students is now posted. Yes, most of the events for students are separate from the events for parents, so they do cover some different things. The parents have little scheduled for the first several hours, so you might plan for something else to do at that time.

UVa recommends one parent. A second parent is only allowed if there is room.

If there is a drive of more than a couple hours, and a parent doesn’t want to turn over a car to their son/daughter for 2.5 days, it starts to make sense for a parent to stay anyway just to minimize all the driving time and gas money.

They totally changed the parent schedule. Last years was much much better. Day 2 this year was Day 1 last year and Day 2 they had a great set up in Newcomb. That is a shame. If it ain’t broke why fix it. On Day 2 when your student was finished registering you left. This schedule leaves way too much time for parents on Day 1 and does not make sense to have an all day session for parents the second day. What if a student has a 10am registration are they suppose to hang out all day while the parents are in session? With that said students and parents I am sure can find plenty to do in Charlottesville. Just a shame they changed it around the way they did.

Maybe they want to keep the parents occupied so they don’t interfere with course registration.
