Parents want me to expand

my list of colleges. I have a solid 7 I want to apply to. This is so annoying. They are encouraging me to apply to IVY league schools but I know there is no way in hell I could get in. I have a small shot at Cornell, that's about it.

Here's my list:

UC Berkeley
Harvey Mudd College
Cornell University
UC San Diego
UC Davis
UC Irvine

as you can see, I want to stay in California.
What are some good schools you would add to your list that I have a shot at? Even if it's a small reach? Just don't put good schools like Harvard cause there's no way I could get in and I know that. Thanks

Here's what I've added so far:

UCLA
Brandeis University
University of Washington
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor

The reason why these weren't originally on my list is because I want to stay in California and I hate LA.

If LA isn’t your thing and you like LACs then consider Claremont McKenna and Pomona (yeah they are close to LA, but they really aren’t the LA experience that you would get at UCLA). Otherwise, your list of colleges looks good. UCB is probably a bit of a reach for you (so many competitive in-state students) but you look solid for UCSD and UCI and UCD should definitely accept you.

If you like Brandeis consider Lehigh, and if you like CMU then look into Gtown or Tufts (be wary of Tufts Syndrome). UCB, however, is one of the best (if not the best) schools on your list (UMichigan, UWashington, and UCLA are extremely close in academics), so you should have some excellent options.

If you do go the Ivy route, try Cornell or Penn (not Wharton though).

UMichigan out of state with your stats will probably be a reach as well, but you are a strong applicant (try recalculating your GPA the Michigan way: ignore freshman year and A = 4 (no pluses or minuses), B=3, etc.)

Thanks for your response, it was helpful. I know Berkeley is a reach, but it is my top choice next to Harvey Midd. I know for the Claremont colleges you can take courses at the other collegtes, but do you really think McKenna would be a good choice? Pomona’s way too hard too get into and its more Literature based…

Never really heard of Lehigh… not that much anyway… as for Gtown I forgot to mention I want to major in engineering, which they don’t offer as a major. I don’t know what Tufts Syndrome is. I don’t think I really have a shot at Penn.

Ugh I wish I could just apply to those I had on my list… filing out a bunch of apps is gonna be a hassle considering I don’t even want to apply to those schools. :/

Come on peoples!
