Parents weekend a bore?

I checked out the schedule for Oct 3-5th parent's weekend as I'll be a new sophomore transfer this year, and its basically very few activities, a few seminars, and the schedule repeats every day. Also, a giant $100 fee for a family with only 1 or 2 free meals. Anybody been, or is it not worth making the parents fly up? (I'm from Florida.)

Here's the site with the schedule.

Carolina Parents - Draft Schedule

I thought it looked pretty lame as well. I could not understand what the $100 fee was for since they are giving families little. The football game - an extra $50 per person - is expensive if you are also flying in for the weekend. My son is an incoming freshman so we are going but everyone tells me that we probably won't go again. Just a chance to see how he is doing and what his new life is like.

If your parents do fly up, I would maybe plan your own things to do with them.

My parents came up last year and didn't register. They aren't coming up this year (I'm OOS though, so it's more of a hassle for them to make plans). They only really wanted to see the UNC v. UM game last year (we're from Florida too), and even that was...disappointing. They aren't coming this year. They've seen the campus, and it's close enough to Fall Break that they'll get to see me soon anyway.

Didn't UNC win last year against UM?
Im from Miami. That'll be a perfect game for my parents to come up to watch.

This year UNC plays AT Miami (Sept. 27). I have a child at each school, so I guess I'll be remaining neutral...

I would suggest they visit another time....parking is a pain, hotels overbook, campus very crowded..if they want to be a part of the events yes come on down....or up. Otherwise, things would be more normal another weekend.

UNC did win last year....but my mom is a tar heel, and my dad went to UM for school. While it was good that UNC won, the ensuing bickering, alas, was not. Sports get people too riled up, lol.

If we are coming for Parents' Weekend are we supposed to buy S2 (UNC Freshman) a football ticket, too, or can he get a student ticket? They did not make that clear!

If the student gets in on a student ticket, he sits in the student section. If you want him to sit with you, you have to buy him a ticket.

when does the ticket lottery start?

Students get into the football games free with their OneCard, but we have to sit in the Student Section if get in free. So, if you want your child to sit with you, you have to purchase a ticket.

Haha. I just noticed that jimmyduck already responded to your question, irishforever, and I basically said the same thing. Oh well... too late to delete now.

Yeah. My parents came last year and didn't register. It'll be fun if you do your own thing and they don't have to worry about all these schedules, etc.

So...it should not be hard for a student to get a ticket to be in the student section for parents' weekend? That is what D and S1 have done at their schools, then we meet up afterwards for dinner, or whatever... I just want to make sure that we are all able to go to the game!
