We plan to attend Parents Weekend. The concert was sold out the first day and we didn't plan to attend the football game. Can anyone give me some idea of what we should be doing that weekend. I thought we would take my d shopping - other than that I wasn't sure. Based on the fact that the hotels are sold out I assume it is well attended.

I’d let your D take the lead. What does SHE want to do while you’re there? Show you around? Shop? Eat out?

D is a music theatre major. Collage (the musical review type show which runs twice on Friday night and twice on Saturday night) is always sold out in minutes, but if you go early and get in the waiting line, you can often get in. It is always excellent and worth waiting in line for! Other things we have done on parent weekend are attending another music performance which includes faculty member performances. I think this is on Friday night? It has been excellent the two years we have seen it. Also getting together with D and her friends/friends’ parents for lunch or dinner at a local restaurant has been fun. Taking a walk around campus and sitting near the “lake” with D and friends, just hanging out has been fun too. Her freshman year we went to the one and only football game she has ever attended. LOL. We also went to the Elon sponsored lunch her freshman year, but have not attended that since then, preferring to get together with her and friends/parents instead. Shopping is fun too. My D is always up for a quick trip to the local shopping center (which is quite nice and is new since she started there (she’s a senior this year). I agree, offer some suggestions and then let your D take the lead! And yes, parent weekend is very well attended. I forgot to make hotel reservations and we’ll be staying in Greensboro again this year because there seems to be nothing locally available.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t know about the faculty performance. Also I will suggest if she wants to go early and see if we can get tickets. She was involved in mt in high school and may want to try so thanks for the tip. We are going to go out to dinner with her suitemates. She is not one to make plans so I am pleased about this. My son went to a large OOS state school and we always went up not on parent’s weekend but tried to schedule our visit halfway through between the start date and Thanksgiving. He didn’t have a fall break.

Anyone have any good suggestions for where to go for dinner? Probably a little late to be making reservations, but…

Sal’s Italian restaurant on Huffman Mill Rd. is the favorite of both D and my husband, so we always go there at least once when we visit and so do many of D’s friends/parents. They also enjoy Mimi’s Cafe which is in the new shopping center. I think it’s a chain, but not one we have here in upstate NY so it’s a different experience for us. For late night hanging out with friends after a show, there’s always Steak and Shake, another chain we don’t have here in NY. Good for ice cream or shakes but mostly just to have some place to party after an event because it’s open until the middle of the night (might be 24 hours now, I’m not sure). Namaste is an Indian Restaurant on Huffman Mill Rd. that D and her friends love too if you’re into Indian food.

I liked Pregos an Italian restaurant Good Italian food.

I think we have tried all the restaurants in the mall at Alamance Crossing. Not outstanding but good for the most part. We also like Texas Road House, a chain restaurant but one we have never tried before.
